Found my first today. Was checking it out for RPM when I noticed. I keep flipping it to double check lol. I believe i had an 1987 D WRPM-013. Is it a possibility 2 still have that RPM now that I have identified the rotated die error? Or is that a symptom of it? Not sure how i could show this error in a picture. But the reverse's noon is actually pointing to 1. Does that make sense to you? I have included a picture of what I was investigating for RPM. Whats funny is looking at the RPM, its description on Cooper Coins stated tilted. That's what reminded me to not forget and check for the rotated die error possibility before I moved on to the next coin!
Look up Split plate doubling, I do believe that is what you have found. I could be wrong but the pictures are slightly out of focus. The area on the right hand side of the D looks like the underlying Zinc planchet. https://www.error-ref.com/split-plating/ Always nice to find a coin that has some reasonable rotation in it too btw!!!
Stand the coin on edge with the obverse facing you and perfectly square. Place a mirror behind it and photograph the coin with the reverse showing in the mirror.
As for rotation, check here: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/rotated-die-us-mint-official-tolerance.330856/ Another interesting "tolerance" question is answered here: https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/31/5113
How cool! Didn't even think of that! I will so give it a try! I have tons of mirrors in my house. People often ask if I am narcissistic and i must enjoy looking at myself in the mirror. I always reply, " well no, not at all. It is so i can see what is coming from behind me'.
