The funniest thing is, that apparently last year you went through this same discussion with some people on CT. Apparently they got fed up with your judgemental basis. Lets not provoke another round of this again shall we? I am just being polite where as your not, but if you want a burner, well we could go there :whistle:

It's always interesting to check the pulse of the audience. It would be a gross overstatement on your part to try to make it sound as if any large segment of the folks on CoinTalk supports ripping people off, but admittedly there is a contingent here who can do it without remorse. My position was and is that when you deal with people who hold themselves out as "dealers" then it is fair to make your best deal. But when dealing with the nonprofessional public, you have a moral duty to treat them fairly. Paying $60 per ounce for gold is over the line. But you are correct that I wasn't polite, so I apologize for that.

 

Theyre quite the professionals, they take apart electronics strip them for the gold. Usually turn in a gram if theyre lucky.
if its some actual jewelery it goes for more depending on weight.
But if theyre gunna give me some straight 24k flake well imm pay low since im the only person who takes it anyways.
Plus for $60 an oz thats a killing on my side. I could care less if they kill themselves with them chemicals, no one else is touching their product within a 100 mile radius. So at $60 an ounce its a favor since I have to deal with the hassle of that crap. However I ahve no such moral duty. I have a moral duty to put food on the table, and not sell people an addicting product. Other than that I have no such duty to anyone, what I offer is fair and since I take all forms i have cut into the competiotions bussiness. i remember them telling me I wouldnt survive two weeks.
Well guess what im not only suriving but thriving off their "scraps" and no complaints about my prices so as of now I would say I meet my obligation, and since no is conerned that I making a dollar well then Its safe to say I pay fair prices.

I just looked up a few ' scrap PM dealers' and even for 10 karat gold they all offer a minimum of $410 or better an ounce. There seems to me that some business ethics involved here. When dealing with people wanting to benefit from their scrap gold, They should be informed on what the present POG is and also the difficuties involved in recovering the gold if it is not 24 karat. To not inform your possible customers is unethical IMHO.
I would believe that many would opt for other arrangements to get the best price possible. I not saying Cer. doesn't do this but using a phone and the US Mail is not above a person's ability to make a better deal.

Well lets see they could travel 327 miles to the nearest shop that actually takes their type of scrap. hmmh at least $30 of gas to get there plus they pay less than I do. jeez it seems like I am the best offer around. so ethically its wrong for me to be paying so much..... and you should double check about your 14k figure. a local shop here pays 14k for an ounce for only $220.
Please keep on going but im still buying and making my profits.

Just remember every time you purchase an object in your convenience store, or grocery store, they do the exact same thing.
And I harshly doubt you would want your local clerk to spit in your face every time you purchased an item...

 

Read my lips, scrap pm dealers can be called on the telepone or contacted by US Mail. Any person knowling the melt price of any PM as told to them by any reputable jewery, coin dealer, or pawn shop would NEVER take or offer of $60 a troy ounce. I do hope you use troy ounces instead of avoirdupois ounce.
And you are incorrect about the amount commonly paid for 10 and 14 carat gold. Just check any of the sites online . Your local shop is as bad as you are in not offering fair value.

 

I would stay away from Palladium, the resale value and refining is a nightmare unless you have large quantities. It's a good investment if you are buying these at a good price.

I cannot imagine somebody, in 21st century, would need to drive 327 miles to get the same pittance for gold as you say. I cannot think of anything that is easier to sell than scrap gold. And for much, much more than 400 an ounce.
And nobody needs any store for that. I am amazed that there are enough fools to keep your store open.
