@panzerman That coin from Biafra definitely sends a strong message but one has to wonder how many people in that country can afford such a gold coin to feel inspired by its design.

If, they had been supported by the UN/ World/ the State of Biafra had vast oil resources. So, many of the more prosperous could have afforded a set. I remember buying it from the Valcambi Mint for $950.00. The Swiss (Valcambi Mint) worked with Biafran designers to produce the beautifull coins. One of the nicest coins struck in 20 th Century. Esp. compared with the crappy mint productions today/ UK excluded. The RSA was one of a handfull of nations that supported Biafran Independence.

 

Back in my novice collecting days/ I bought lots of Franklin Mint/ other PROOF sets. Then/ I saw the beauty of classical coinage and never regretted it. Now, I have coins from 2700 years of coin production. But/ I still have all those proof coins/ sets/ still get some of the modern UK gold in PF-70 esp. 5 Sovereigns/ 2 sov. I have still 900 golden+ coins to keep this thread going strong.
