I just realized that I joined CT exactly 5 years ago today. Time flies when you’re having fun. I’ve had fun being part of fun games and epic tournaments but mostly I have enjoyed just interacting with fellow collectors. I have made a lot of friends on this site and I’ve even had the privilege of meeting some of you. I hope to get an opportunity meet more of you at some point in the future. I bought my first ancient coin in September of 2011 and a handful of others over the next few years but it wasn’t until 2016 that I really started to develop my collection with purpose. It’s been great sharing that with all of you. To keep it coin legal here are a few of my favorite coins I bought back in my rookie CT year. Thank you all for your friendship. Please post anything you think is relevant.
Happy anniversary! I also joined in 2016 (August) but only started posting last year in October when I started studying ancient coins.
Congratulations! I always very much enjoy your posts and the coins you show. I will have been here two years in another couple of months.
Happy anniversary! Did you have a mentor at the beginning of collecting ancient coins, or did you learn yourself from books and information on the Internet, because from the very beginning you had a good taste for quality, important and interesting coins?
OMG, @Curtisimo , I have been working hard the last 5 years of trying to get you bounced off the site! Oh, well, Looks like I will have to work another 5 years to bounce you off the site. Great posts, great stories, great coins, great fun, and I enjoy your great friendship!
@Curtisimo now that you mention time, I had to check when was my registration: it was in May 2017 which is four years and a couple of months ago - it seems like yesterday; time flies like an arrow !! My first post was about this coin, at least it is the oldest one that I saved: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/very-small-coin-ar-triobol-hemidrachm.299659/#post-2797249 Thank you all CTers for your always great answers. You are awesome
Antoninus Pius AE from Tyras - modern day Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi in Ukraine. Which is where I was when I joined CT back in 2008.
Happy anniver-sarary! Man are we lucky to have you around. I've LOVED every contest you've put on and there are few if any that I'd like to share beers with and our collections Surely you're a favorite poster to all who've been lucky enough to enjoy your writing, research and tasteful and possibly tasty coins! Here's a very special coin that's near and dear to me:
Thanks ACH! I look forward to years more of seeing what you add to your collection. Got me beat by a few months. I’m glad to have the opportunity to know you. Your posts on Judaean coins have influenced my own collection in a positive way (such as my John Hyrcanus prutah purchase). You’ve even helped me ID a few head scratchers over the years. Thanks DRay! Thanks @ambr0zie ! I am glad you decided to start posting more over the last year. I have enjoyed your many great coins and posts. Hahaha I always enjoy your posts and sense of humor Ocat. A full decade of sharing your knowledge and coins. You are one of the most knowledgable posters on the forum in your fields of interest. When you take the time to post I always try to pay attention and learn something. Thanks Donna! You have such an interesting and well rounded collection and I always enjoy reading your well written notes that you post with your coins. Crazy to think it’s only been that long.
Happy 5th Anniversaary, Curtis! Not only would CT not be the same if you hadn't joined, it would have been a less entertained, educated, and enjoyable place. You've been a truly wonderful addition to the oddball family we have here. Great "rookie" coins by the way. I look forward to seeing many more years of your CT coin posts!
That is such a nice compliment that I don’t know what to say. I started collecting coins when my grandpa gave me a peace dollar when I was a kid. My early ancient purchases were just driven by my love of history and my surprise that such objects could be obtained at reasonable cost. I knew just enough to help me pick out which coins were likely to have an interesting story and then I would do more research. Honestly, many of the collectors on CT served as major influences for me when I started getting more serious about collecting. I could tag specific members but the truth is I’d miss too many because of how many folks I look up to on here. Even now I am constantly influenced by members here including everyone who has posted on this thread. If anything coin collecting has helped me become more motivated to learn. Thank you for the kind words. Hahaha I am more scrappy than I look . You’re going to have to do better than that to get rid of me! ... just so long as you don’t tell my wife I exceeded my coin budget this month I should be good... um, maybe I’ve said too much . Also thanks Brian! You were a cornerstone of this place well before I came along. Your history focused and fun-first style of collecting has been a great influence on me. I’m always glad to see a post from you. Beautiful coin! I have very much enjoyed your posts from the the 4+ years. Wow 2008 and still an active poster. That’s awesome! Nice coin. You always crack me up brother. One of these days we will definitely have to hang out in person, talk coins and drink beer. You have been a big influence on my collecting and I admire the way you collect. You always have something interesting to show. I’ve learned a lot from your posts and had plenty of laughs in the process. I feel fortunate to have this and other ex Ryro coins in my collection. Thanks @ominus1 ! I still feel like my collection has plenty of room to grow and I still have lots of enthusiasm for the hobby. I’ll definitely be around for years to come! You are one of the members that always seems to take a real interest in people’s posts and you always seem to find time to respond to the many threads here. CT is a much funner place with you in it. Nice V! Thanks Mr. Q! Thanks Singig! Thanks Z! Very kind of you my friend. I think you know that I admire you greatly as a collector. In fact, I consider my collecting style to be a lot like yours but without so much of the excellent taste and the talent for finding unusual and interesting coins. As such I figured instead of working to develop better coin-taste I’d just buy a few from you this year and skip out on all that hard work . In all seriousness though I do think highly of you and your collecting style. Your kind words mean a lot.
