Very nice pick up indeed if I cant find a year dated Kruger next month tat I need will consider a 1 OZ Libertad I have seen a couple going in the $2,400 range, which is well above spot but considering the rarity might be worth it.
Yes, I only have a couple, not ounces though, too big and too expensive for me. If you can get one from a coin shop, you should do pretty well. Online, the prices are steep for sure because of the rarity factor. Most collectors of Mexican Libertads have deep pockets, leaves me out!
where I get my Kruger’s, it’s a small shop but very trust worthy I don’t think I would buy a raw one on line.
They have all the high end equipment and the let me watch to make sure I am getting a genuine article which I’d the most important thing of all.
Not only that, it pays bigtime to haggle! I've gotten some really sweet deals on gold coins specifically from my LCS. Other coins, he pulls out the greysheet, but for gold coins, he knows if he gives me a really good price and I want it, I'm gonna buy it! The only downside is my LCS rarely gets foreign gold, even Kruger's.
I here that, enquired about a 1 OZ Gold Liberated but it would cost me $3,400 there’s no possible way to get that premium back, not in my like time anyway that would be for sure a passion of love purchase…LOL
You got it right though, you always have to consider resale possibilities otherwise you step onto a pile of shizzle, trust me it's painful to wipe that mess off!
painful is right, but there’s a big difference between collecting and investing, if something is cool you might pay the extra bucks but from an investing view maybe not so much.
I can't emphasize this enough. These owners come across stuff everyday that most of us would give our right arm to acquire. That's how I obtained my date set 1/2 ounce China Panda gold over a decade ago (and sent me on the numismatic voyage of a lifetime)...I started buying OMP Pandas in gold and silver over the counter and the PNG Member-shop owner comes up to me one day and says something like "Pssst- would you be interested in a Panda gold date set?"...I look around and thing "Wha...you talking to me?" No one was buying these way back but after viewing the coins and some research I could not resist the offer. My LCS literally changed MY life.
I'd like to but I'm not techy re taking photos. I only have a Nikon Coolpix of early vintage. I'd enjoy sharing one or 2 pics of some SUPER Key date 1990's 1/2 oz Pandas or recent certified 1/2's to keep the date set current. I'll give this a try, otherwise the option is a page(s) of gold Pandas from my collection in their binder. The Missus would freak if I posted that (yes, my wife is on board [to a point]). I'll give the Coolpix a try.
