these two years. a lot of outsiders (not coin collectors) are buying gold coins. since they don't know much about coin. people tend to buy proof coins. because for them, it is a very attractive piece of coin. you show anyone with a piece of proof and uncirculated. they will choose the proof. thus it pushes the price of proof coins.

And that's why I purchased both the Unc & Proof... The proof to match my buff date run and the unc as an 'investment' to sell at the right moment.
I never expected that time would be less than a year from the original purchase date:yawn:
I quickly learned from a numismatic point of view that Uncs are typically the rare breed when set against their Proof brethren and that as an ‘investment’ they are worth the purchase.

Even though 08-W proof buffs are listed at a higher price, I would not be surprised to see the Uncs slowly overtake them.

wtbs... both have already doubled in price! How high can they go?
For this reason alone, holding on to the Uncs is a good idea.

This morning I hear on the news that Moody's, a top Wall Street Credit Agency is threatening the United States to get the Deficit down, or lose it's Gold Plated AAA Credit Rating, and the dollar value could go down . . . . . evidently this is really bad news. I wonder how this is going to effect gold prices???

i see the 2006w to 2008w collector's uncirculated AGE. the 2008w AGB unc and proof. those prices can be double soon from their high's. as you compare their mintage from other years. these were very very low mintage. for example: 2008w one ounce AGE unc at 11,908 against 2009 bullion one ounce AGE unc at 1,386,500 and 1999 at 1,505,206.

New here, but have followed the thread for a month. Have a question for Elaine. When you state that you see price appreciation for the 2006-2008w's collectors uncirculated AGE are you referring to the burnished gold coins? I bought three 2007 4 coin uncirculated collectors sets because of their low mintages. I wish I had also purchased a 2008 set as the mintages were even lower. Thanks

these modern commemorative $5.00 unc gold coins are even better than buffaloes or eagles. these were just raw coins with complete box and c.o.a.

    $5.00 gold:
    1995 stadium - $229.00 (initial offer) - now $2,450.00
    1996 flag bearer - $229.00, now $2,600.00
    1996 cauldron - $229.00, now $2,600.00
    1997 j.robinson - $180.00, now $3,950.00
    1997 f. roosevelt - $180.00, now $1,550.00
    2001 capitol vision - $180.00, now $2,050.00

    $10.00 gold:
    2000 liberty of congress - $380.00, now $6,000.00

There has been an extreme fluxuation in prices of different coins in the last year. It almost seems like you have to be holding the right cards at the right time. What is the one factor that all of these coins have in common, demand, low mintage, or something else? If I had to pick out a $5 coin that I thought would be a real winner, it would be the 1999 Gold Washington, or Mount Rushmore, The Constitution.

it's better to get the designs that we like most. and also the designs that few people like but have a low mintage. in this way. we are the winner.

I always appreciate your opinion Elaine. The mixing of your opinions and my gut feeling have been good to my pocketbook! Thanks!

I want to start adding AGB's to my collection and have to decide whether to chase the 2008's or just start with a 2009. Watched all of the 2008 offerings go by from the mint but did not purchase because I wanted a UHR. I know now that if I try for the 2008 buffs I'm gonna pay a high premium or can just purchase a 09 buff from the mint for less. Any advice would be appreciated.

As I ponder selling my $5 AGB UNC I am curious as to why you think this? Is it a pure mintage issue. I bought it for $150 and can get $550 in ebay right now.

I see no 2010 AGB info on that link. On the 10/29/09 product announcement for 2009 AGB, which is still available for sale.

edit: seems you have to click the Product Schedule button at top, then scroll all the way down to see these items:

Information on 2010 American Eagle Silver Proof Coin availability.

Information on 2010 American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coin availability.

Information on 2010 American Eagle Gold Proof Coins availability.

Information on 2010 American Eagle Gold Uncirculated Coin availability.

Information on 2010 American Buffalo Gold Proof Coin availability.

Probably they have the page live but haven't updated it with copy yet.

When the Mint announces they will or conversely that they will not be release when the Mint announces this possible outcome. There has been no announcements to date. Just keep watching those Product Schedule pages at the Mint and follow MintNewsBlog, CoinNews.net, Numismatic News, et al. for up to date announcements, because as soon as a hint or a whisper of an announcement it uttered, word will travel fast and it will be hard to miss an answer to your query. :smile
