dump the girlfriend, buy the bar - it'll run your life a lot less or dump the gf and don't buy the bar and save the money. The bottom line here is that regardless of what you decide to do, it's probably time to dump the control freak.

My $2 worth if I may?

Many may not agree..with me on the 2nd part of my statement.

Direction is a path followed by a man that sets his own destiny...be not lead, but lead instead. Take this persons feelings into consideration, afterall she is somewhat close to you.

Explain what Silver Bullion is and how prices in times of economic dispair may inflate the upward movement of you initial investment. Now mind that you consider the 15% to 20% both ways on the deal for the purchase and sell of said investment. Once you recover that and a profit is made, only then can you say it was a successful investment.

Look at all risk's prior to buying, even the potential loss of a GF.

    Regards,

    RickieB

I agree. If you are truly planning on moving out with her and have no income at the moment, then you need to start saving now. So, I would leave that money in the bank. You need 3 months worth of bills saved up before you start spending disposable income on investments.

"Buy five of them, and when she stands there speechless, tell her to keep her opinions to herself next time because you are a man not a whipped servant." +1

Have her read this thread: then,

--she'll realize she's pushy, given her position
--she'll realize you're not likely to lose a whole lot doing this
--she'll respect coin collecting a bit
--she'll realize that thinking of buying a house at age 17 or 18 is ludicrous, unless you're a hollywood star.

You know there are plenty of other fish in the sea, especially at your age. Me, it's tough finding wimmen who put up with the possum thing.

There are a lot of tough guys here recommending an approach to women that will just guarantee that they are eventually removed from the gene pool.

Does that mean you fall into the whipped servant category? The only reason women treat men that way is because men allow it. The moral of the story is "be a man" and don't allow a woman to dictate the terms of your life to you. As far as being removed from the gene pool, you have severely underestimated the insecurities of a typical woman.

I love all the male testosterone around here...:D

I'm glad at 17 you are thinking this way. But have your finances in place first. And your current GF isn't going to be your GF forever. It just feels like it. You'll probably have many many more GF's in the next 10-15 years before you get married.

Back in 2000 when you get can 1 oz gold for under $300.

Can you imagine if you were able to pick up a roll of 20 for just under $6,000?
But the "current" GF says NO. And it's YOUR money?

And now let's say hypothetically, 10 years later you haven't even seen her in years. Now you don't have her, and you lost out big time on the 20 rolls of gold.

Will she help you get that gold back and pay the difference that you lost out on? Nope!

Work out your own finances and don't let other people do it for you.

I have the best wife in the world. If you approach relationships with the need to dominate and be independent from highly insecure women, it's going to be a tough road -- for both of you.

I met my wife in HS when we were 14, got married to her 7 years later at 21.

You are fortunate to have found a woman who is not insecure. I am not advocating dominance in a relationship. Quite to the contrary, I am advising him not to let her dominate the relationship, which is something every woman I have ever known has tried to do. Not allowing a woman to dominate a relationship is not the same as dominating the relationship yourself. Without mutual repsect and the elimination of expectations, it will be a tough road for anyone, including myself.

Oh sure, it can absolutely happen. But there are many many more divorces than successful stories like yours. I think the divorce rate is 60-65% and with today's "ME" generation, it probably will get worse.

Agreed. I too didn't mean to sound like I wanted males to dominate the relationship. But I can't stand when females tells a guy he can't buy this or that, let alone a young 17'ish year old girl!!!

Now if the female is more financially literate and the guy is just a dumb male that needs financial handholding, then I can understand that. But hey, never date a girl who wants to have control over all aspects of your life...and vice versa...it's pretty common sense....
