Are all those finds by the same friend? If so, talk about the golden touch! Any ONE of those items would be a bucket list item. Awesome sauce lol

Same guy. And that ain’t a fraction of his finds. I wouldn’t believe some of them except I’ve seen the guy in action. He’s very, very skilled and goes hunting all the time, but he’s also extremely lucky.

@lordmarcovan . Lucky and I bet he found a lot of trash before finding the 1798 . It's amazing how good some of the coins come out of the ground ! You've seen some of mine . Clay-like soil unfertilized is the best in my opinion .

Well-drained sandy soil here can be relatively kind to copper. Sometimes.

Here are some pix he sent me yesterday.

An Andrew Jackson campaign button (Huzza!) Weird how they put the slogans on the back side of those early campaign buttons, where no one could read them?

A US Artillery Corps button from just after the War of 1812. Full gilt on it! I dug one myself, years ago, on an 1817 battle site, but not nearly so nice.

Chatham Artillery, circa 1820, but apparently often catalogued with Confederate buttons. He turned down a $1,500 offer on this one.

Pretty nice Seated dime, I’d say.

I'm drooling here. Absolutely amazing finds. I'd like to know his spiel for getting property owners to grant detecting permission.

Umm... sometimes it might be best not to ask about that. ;)

Mind you, I'm not saying he's a poacher, or an outright trespasser. But like a lot of the really rugged relic hunters in these parts, he goes out into some really remote places sometimes, so it's not like the property owner would be easy to track down and ask. Or would know anyone had been out there.

FWIW, I'm pretty sure he hasn't crept onto federal land, like the Fort Frederica National Monument. (Uncle Sam don't mess around.) Or any of the state historical sites. You'd have to be pretty dumb to do that.

He took me to one place he had permission at. I got an aluminum can, 8,000 chigger bites, and three ticks. He got a Seated half.

Bought that years ago from my buddy who used to own a tackle shop in Quincy Mass, he was quite the eccentric. He'd go hunting for gems every year in Costa Rica.. always came back with some interesting stuff. Heaven got a good one! His wife runs the tackle shop to this day though, she's done well carrying on his legacy.

...and some bones I found years ago. Kept them because I thought they were interesting and, well, because I'm into the macabre. Any ideas on what animal this belongs to are welcome.. cuz I sure as shoot don't know!
