So one of my coworkers thinks I'm a pawn shop

He had some silver bits he thought I might want before he pawned them.
The kicker was he wants them back in a few weeks.
His daughter needs gas money.
I loaned him $50.
He felt better about borrowing the money with collateral.
How'd I do?

One of the real privileges of having a few bucks is that you can sacrifice some and not got too distraught about it. I appreciate that privilege when I have it.

If you can help someone without hurting yourself, why not. With the coins in your possession you can't go wrong on this deal money wise.

 

You did better than he did. If he says to keep the coins, ask if he’s sure and than say yes.

 

I think you may have opened yourself up to become a "lender" to others, which is something I wouldn't want to be.
Let's hope the daughter never runs out of gas the guy forgets he made the deal. Maybe his daughter needs to get a job and then the problem will be solved.

100% correct on not wanting to be a bank for people who don't manage their own money.
The daughter has a job, makes good money but has a good for nothing looser boyfriend that she supports.
Some people are just not real bright in that area (that's putting it nicely)
The father is good people but struggling themselves.
