I am looking at these and yes the premium is higher than normal but this is awesome looking. I did some googlefoo and can not find out any sales of it on the Bay or anything so kind of not common I think. ($1972) I like things that are not common and have appeal, just like this one did: ($1952) https://www.scottsdalemint.com/product/2021-samoa-alpha-omega-1oz-gold-coin/ What are the thoughts on getting 'odd' coins or rounds instead of the common ones? My thought is in a pinch they are worth 1 Oz, the premiums disappear but as a collector they could recover some of the premium. The underlying metal doesn't change but the collectability does? Thoughts?
Long and short of it...Depends. If push comes to shove, I'd rather have government issued PMs (AGE/Maples/Krugs/etc). If I'm buying for the collectability, then premium be damned! (Within reason). You are gonna have a harder time finding a collector that will hopefully enable you to recoup your premium if you need it. I do have some silver rounds that I bought purely because I liked the art and I paid a premium for it.
Nice, I think we are on the same page...... I was ok with a little extra, if the bullion goes up then I am good. The thing is I like variety and I can get no fun out of looking at the same thing. I can by junk silver and look for errors or something but Gold is a different animal all together. That first one is AMAZING!
The whole series is great. I posted them awhile back but I'll throw another on here just for fun...Best part is, these came out when silver was ~$15/oz I believe so I paid almost double in premium but now that premium isn't so bad. If you are into the Aztec calendar, why don't you look into a Mexico 20 pesos? Classic gold. Beautiful design. (From NGC's website)
Yes at $15 it was a steal I think. I will look into the 20 Pesos. That GSM one just has me staring at it.. Thanks sir!
nice design, but if your going to pay a premium, make sure you put it in the like pile not the investment one.
Wish I had a Cuauhtémoc gold piece like the one above, never ever came across one, mintage must be fairly minimal making that coin a rarity. I love the man in the center of the calendar, here's mine, only in silver though!
Nice looking coin for sure, the aztec references really cool as well, when you go to sell when ever that time may come best to go private party as your LCS would look as that as generic GOLD with no premium over spot.
I also have one of those Mucha silver rounds (a different design) purely for the art. Got lucky it walked into the shop and sat long enough I didn't have to pay full retail for it.
