I can't figure out how this could have happened. Part of the motto IR in AMERICA is in the denticles. Thoughts?
It looks like a Photoshop clone tool error to me. If that's what it is, there's no ethical reason for a seller to be using that particular image manipulation tool on a coin photo.
I see what you are referring to and have no explanation on how that could have happened. Additional posts from more experienced members will be interesting to read.
The RI in the rim has identical hits and lighting as the original RI, which is pretty much impossible. Has to be photo manipulation. Is it being advertised as having RI in the denticles? Otherwise maybe they manipulated it to conceal rim damage and messed up.
These three are die fillings, retained after strike. Usually when a lamination falls off the coin it will keep some of the details of the die. If you look closely the details of where the dentils should be are there. So, personally I would call this a loss of lamination.
I think you missed the part where the bottoms of RI are in the denticles. Red lines below are pointing to features that are identical in both sets of RI.
There can be really only one way that you get a raised looking image that reads correctly any where on the coin it is: 1. Being double struck or, 2. Struck thru die filling I could be way off had a few beers and BBqing. It is either that or has been altered, just my 2 cents.
Maybe, but think about what you are saying it is and how it got there. The letters can’t be switched if it’s genuine.
Well OBVIOUSLY he's using the hunt and peck method of typing and his left finger is ever so slightly longer...probably an old table saw or joiner accident
