How much are you willing to pay per oz over spot for silver?

Over the past year or so I’ve seen a lot of people who say they aren’t buying silver bullion because of “high premiums right now.”

But that makes me curious: What’s the highest premium you’re willing to pay over spot?

The lowest I’ve seen lately is $2.89/per oz over spot.

However, some like the American Silver Eagle are ridiculous at like $9/oz over spot. o_O But at the same time I know dealers who pay spot + $2 for BU ASEs so really it’s a buy/sell difference of $7 not $9.

Personally, I focus on generic (uncirculated) numismatic silver. I'm happy to pay 25% over spot. Currently, Unc rolls are selling for quite a bit more than that...so I haven't bought any in a while.

What's odd is that the money supply is expanding, inflation is rising, but the Dollar is rising and gold/silver are falling. Higher market premiums for silver and gold suggests they are being held artificially low. If that's the case, I should probably take that into account and raise my price ceiling.

By “unc numismatic silver” do you mean like Mercury Dimes, Walking Liberty Halves and pre-64 Washington Quarters?

Yes, but I focus more on dimes, quarters, and halves from 1953-1964. I buy the older coins when I can, but they command higher premiums.

Too much for me it seems.

These carry hefty "artistic " premiums.

Copper has had quite a run lately, but I hear it may head even higher if the infrastructure bill becomes law. A lot of the projects in the Bill are copper hogs.

Garlicus Debt is dumb, cash is king.

Currently, I am contemplating paying $200 over spot for 1 oz ASE. Of course, it’s the V75 ASE.

There are several answers to the question really. As some have posted, if a lovely round strikes your fancy, spot price is no longer part of the equation. When I buy bags of junk silver, I pay spot and no more. Often less once the wheeler-dealer in me kicks in..... It wasn't all that long ago that I was buying ASE's at spot. Thank goodness I purchased enough to suit the hoarding side of my personality because I refuse to buy an ASE at the current levels. Much less the current levels plus premium. When this crazy old world settles down and ASE's are again plentiful, I may buy more. But not at these crazy levels.

The only silver I buy is an once-per-year purchase of an ASE for my album. Other than that I buy numismatic silver in the form of SLHs for my collection. Haven’t bought bullion for years because, like Randy, the hoarding side of my personality refuses to pay a premium.

I was getting junk silver at spot or +$1, and Silver Shield rounds and bars for around +$3.

I quit buying ASEs last year when premiums popped.

    I'm on hold right now.
