Got an offer to pre-order 2010 Silver Eagles from a dealer that I've done business with on occasion. Pre-order price is $21.71 if I order a roll (20). What do you guys think? Seems a tad bit high to me.

Maybe if enough people here on CT want a roll or two, you can get enough folks together to buy one of the green monster boxes from the major bullion folks and save a bit of money. I've seen this done on other forums with some success.

Well, he does indicate $21.40 for 500+ . Still no bargain as far as I'm concerned...

That seems too high to me, I would not pay more than $20.00, and thats just for 1 coin, let alone a roll.

Yeah, why such a high price? Plus you will be out of cash for that period of time until the ASE's come out. Not good...

Doesn't seem too high to me for 2010s right now... I would buy 2009s or something cheaper. ;)

That is $4.10 over the NY closed ask price of $17.61

From my limited research you can order 20 online for about $3 over spot, but guess what... shipping is about $1 a coin... so you are only saving a grand total of $2! :)

What if the price goes up too... that guy is on the hook for the difference and may even take a loss by the time he buys. Depends on if he locks in a good price and how many middle men are between him and the mint. Smaller dealers are not buying from the mint... they are buying from other dealers. Point is... he made an offer he was comfortable with and it doesn't sound too unreasonable to me.

Now, a Major dealer will probably come in a good bit lower than that, but do you have one near you and will they take pre-orders... that is the question.

You could order from FeeBay and really pay a jacked up price! LOL

    Thanks,
    Michael

ahhh, the original poster never said he was a local dealer. If that were the case, then I definitley wouldn't mind paying a little more just to go down the street and quickly pick up ASE's etc... I'm always willing to pay a little more for convenience...

I use eBay for IT related items, but never ever would think about using it for coins. I am way too paranoid about that stuff....

Actually, I guess he doesn't say either way... the post kind of indicates local and possibly small (as in... not big enough to buy directly from the mint), but that may just be an assumption on my part. If my assumptions are correct... price isn't horrible IMO.

What good is it to have a good price when the shipping is so high :(

I just compared the two (Ampex and my guy). Even with the $20 dollar shipping fee Ampex, comes in $6 less. I'm gonna have to think about it. Especially since last year I picked up a roll of 20 for about $14.25/piece. What a differance a year makes.....:smile

That's interesting. Is your guy in New Hampshire a small shop? Does he take orders online like APMEX?

I've always been happy with APMEX service and eventhough people have issues with their shipping, it's not enough for me to go elsewhere (just yet)...

MintProducts just sent me a preorder ad and quoted $21.69. Not sure what my local guy would charge.

I'm paying $ 21.50 at a local shop here for pre 2009's. $21.99 is the price for the 2009's which I have not bought. Where are you picking them up for $20.00 or less?
