The set continues with a relatively hard to find country, Azerbaijan. This coin was part of a series of five that honored the First European Games, a version of the Olympics for Europe, held in Baku. Azerbaijan did fairly well, capturing the third most gold medals, 26 (Russia and Belarus were first and second). There is some conflicting information about the mintage. I've seen some sources claim as few as 100 while others claim 1,000. Part of the issue seems to be that these were available individually as well as part of a set of five (limited to 100 sets). I'm not sure if that set is part of the 1,000 total mintage or if it makes the mintage 1,100. Here is the set so far: Kazakhstan https://www.cointalk.com/threads/kazakhstan-–-homeland-of-apples.376054/ Kyrgyzstan https://www.cointalk.com/threads/picked-up-a-new-eagle.375404/ Tajikistan https://www.cointalk.com/threads/and-the-stan-set-grows-with-tajikistan.379258/ Estonia https://www.cointalk.com/threads/ddddd-ex-soviet-nations-set-estonia.379486/
I also have Ukraine & Belarus covered but need to make posts for those coins. Oddly enough I technically don't have Russia covered (Soviet era coins won't count since the idea is post-Soviet nations). This is the placeholder for the Russia spot: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/guess-the-grade-and-guess-what-it-is.362374/
Related disputed territories are covered here: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/starting-the-disputed-territories-set.378075/
You don't hear about Azerbaijan very much. Apparently there was a war there last year: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Nagorno-Karabakh_war
Yes the Nagorno-Karabakh area is a continuing source of conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan (it is within Azerbaijan but has a majority ethnic Armenian population). I'm doing a "disputed territories" mini set too and Nagorno-Karabakh is included: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/starting-the-disputed-territories-set.378075/
