As most of you know I’m not just a coin collector but I also have a nice collection of rocks, minerals and fossils. Many of which have been shown on a CT thread.

I recently purchased these in an auction and I couldn’t believe that I won them at such a low price. Well, the price was below spot and for a mineral example, that’s low. I was thrilled and still am.

This one weight just over a quarter ounce of gold. It’s the same piece just showing both sides. I do not have the area or location this was found in. Sure wish I did but I do know it was found in one of the western states.

Looks great, have you had it tested to check karats? Just wondering.

It’s the quality of gold that counts :)

No, it’s a deep color which means a higher quality.

Buy a kit and test it yourself.

Looks like California or Alaska gold.
I gather a smaller piece now and again if the price is right when were not pulling it out of the ground.

If it was mine, I would just take it over to a jeweler or coin shop who has an XRF spectrometer just to know how high it tests. I thought all nuggets tested 22k but I was wrong. I learned a lesson when I bought this quarter eagle. The bezel was unmarked but it tested 10k and one of the nuggets tested at below 10k. The nuggets were too close to the bezel so my LCS couldn't get a really good reading on them. Oh well, you can't win every time! :D

    Generally Natural Nuggets are 18-22k.
Yours might have been made as jewelry nuggets.

do you care about the value ? If so I would
definitely get it tested, but I guess if just
like to collect them, then that’s not really
    a concern.

You know what they say about a good and a too good to be deal.
Both deals I doesn't hurt to verify PM content.
Below spot gold is always nice, but we all know there are different levels of spot in karat grades.

The next guy that is looking to buy should also verify.

It weighs as a quarter ounce so I just do the math. I have another one a little larger. It looks smaller but it’s heavier. They go very nicely with my coins but they also go well with my rocks, fossils and minerals.

1/4 ounce on this one. The other one I posted a few hours ago is just a wee bit heavier, like .27 ounces.
