Hello Everyone I recently added this coin to my collection. It looks legitimate, but as always I like to get second opinions. Below is the description that was given by the vendor.

1897 Indian Head is AU and 30% double-struck upon ejection from the hub. Very rare and one-of-a-kind unique Mint error coin. These are usually difficult to find, especially in such good shape. The edge damage and reverse damage is a direct result of the coin being hammered by the hub/die. A lot of times these will be completely be clipped off in the process.

    So whats the verdict? Authentic?

Thanks in advance for all comments.

With it’s 30% second strike I should be seeing some of the strike. All I see is a ring from what is being called the rim of the second strike. I can see no signs of the coins design from the second strike.

I’m not an expert by any means but I would be questioning this coin. I’m not convinced that this is a second strike on the coin.

I agree with @Collecting Nut on this one. I see the rim but not really any of the design. @paddyman98 could probably give you a good opinion.

    Hello,
Unfortunately this is not a double strike. If it were it would have the design from the second strike. I hope you didn’t pay to much for it and if you bought from a dealer see if they will take it back. Sincerely, Noal

Interesting. I'm undecided on whether that's a vise job or a legit double strike. Out of my depth there.

Im with the other posters. Not an error. Does not show any design from a second strike.

Considering that the reverse shows no sign of the design, I doubt the authenticity

Definitely a "squeeze job" (vise job, hammer job, garage job, smash job, etc.).
