I don't know. I don't think I'd accept it. You might still be able to pass it at a drive up line, especially when they're real busy, like during the lunch hours. Good question you ask, BTW.
Howdy Mountain Girl. If you can run your fingernails over the surface and it detects small ridges, it has been gone over with a tool or something, so PMD, post mint damage, and NAV, no added value. Interesting find, but barely worth 25¢. Keep your eyes open. Good luck.
Thanks everyone, just what I needed. I dont want to pay to have something graded only to find out its worthless. But you're right it is kind of cool.
hey @Mountain girl yea I'm thinking Dremel tool like @cpm9ball mentioned. whatever it was, the damage occurred after it left the mint or PMD (Post Mint Damage) for short. good luck next time....
Thank you. I just couldn't believe someone could actually spend it. I have another question , why would a nickel weigh more than 5 grams?
Scale issues is a common problem. Is it on a flat surface and properly calibrated? Also, the specification for nickels is 5 grams +/- 0.194 grams. So it can weigh more and still be considered normal
LOL.. WHY ARE YOU YELLING? I also disagree with you. Only in more severe grinding of clad layer coins.
