A Recent deal I got over at Collector's Universe: 1 Barber Dime 2 Mercury Dime 2 Roosie Dime 1 Barber Quarter 2 SL Quarter 2 Washington Quarters 1 Barber Half 1 Walker Half 2 Franklin Half 2 '64 Kennedy 1 Morgan Dollar $5.75 in 90% Silver for $96.50 Just as I asked.. I wanted an under $100 bag with all those coins.. Not bad eh?
A couple years ago I had a bank order me $500 boxes of half dollars and I would go through them and find silver. I typically found 40% coins and anywhere from 5-20 per box. I found a couple walkers and franklin's too...but most were 40% coins. I don't know if it's worth the investment time if it's for profit...but I had fun looking for them and looking for errors. From my experience, there are a lot more silver halves to be found than silver in other denominations. I think part of it is a lot of public doesn't know that '65-70 halves are silver where as most people seem to know that 1964 and before is.
At the beginning of this year, I bought $50 (usually my max for roll hunting, my parents borrowed some money) of halves and all of it was 90% silvers! A lot of walkers in there too... thats $50 for $500, i should probably start CRHing again, ive been putting it off
How much does it cost to buy a box of half dollars? How does the bank know you're returning the correct amount of halves? Do dimes come in boxes or just rolls? Where do you sell the coins for melt?
A box is $500. When you return the coins (best to take them to a different branch), they will run them through a change counting machine at most banks.
Box of halves is $500 I believe, how do they know you ask? They count the rolls Dimes come in both rolls and boxes (Boxes are made up of rolls) As for your third question, I have no clue.
I got one at Wells fargo, just in passing. Had to get 54 clad with it, so I used them at a coffee shop. Dennis..
The halves have to be rerolled bgefore they are returned? If so, what's the quickest way to roll a thousand halves?
I worked at a US Bank a while back while I was applying to graduate school...and that bank didn't want you to roll your coins. All the coins we deposited (large amounts) would be ran through a coin counter machine. So, if someone brought in a bunch of rolls they had wrapped, I would take them to the back...break them open and dumb them into the machine.
