    Thanks everyone!

I am hoping to buy about 1 oz in total in case of inflation or worse.

    These are all great suggestions!

The local coin shop is out of gold last time we called :nailbiting:, so it opened up the choices to too many options for me :joyful:.

Personally if I wanted gold I'd look at buying pre 1933 US gold coins. This is the one that got me started.

I heard on the Indians that there are more fakes than real ones.
Those would be a good idea to buy graded...even for mpcusa:p

Roughly gold ounce price plus a little.

I guess that leaves just more modern issue coins.

I wasn't sure if some country's coins are more reputable or easily sold, so wanted to check here.

That's really cool! If you don't mind me asking, how much would a coin like that go for today?

Ooh, just checked...that's a great find! You don't have to share unless you'd like to

That's the key date, a 1911-D. And it's the strong D. Depending on grade and condition it's roughly a $5,000.00 coin. The weak D can be had for about half that amount.

Just bought a 2021 Australia Gold Dragon.

I'm a sucker for funny shapes and the low mintage sold me. It also helped that everywhere is selling out of everything....

Now I would love to get the silver ones too

    Thank you!

I have an MS-65 1927 but that photo is a generic 1927....the holder says GENUINE NOT GRADED.

Yeah, I noticed that, just wanted to know
if that cost you extra because it was encapsulated.

I have always loved the look of a Liberty Head $20 gold piece, but since spotting one of these in the LCS tray, I think I have a new favorite coin. I am familiar with the 20 Franc variant, but this big one is just a whole other level of beauty!

Just going for weight? I'd probably focus on Krugerrands. Coins like this, however, scratch the numismatic itch as well. Old world gold coins are fun for that reason, and premiums while higher now are still not too terrible. I know the title was ONE gold coin, but I wouldn't discount a quantity of smaller coins (20 Franc, Sovereigns, Mexican Pesos, etc.) to add up near an ounce, if that's the amount you're after.

Picture lifted from Numista, mine is a 1906-A.
