I say leave that stuff to the Franklin Mint. The US Mint is wasting time and money on these overpriced gimmick medallions and ridiculous cartoon coins.

when will they produce some simple bullion like they are supposed to?
where are the Eagles they are supposed to have out long ago?

:secret: For the America the Beautiful quarters, I'll probably collect just the First Day Coin Covers.

first five designs of american the beautiful quarters came out. those were very artistic and beautiful. but still i might not collect them. enough is enough. i will only buy the first set. it will be the clad proof set. it would be better if those were made of silver and it is a half dollar instead.

I agree SM, they don't even have enough Silver to produce the ASE proofs now, how are they going make these 5oz. hockey pucks?

LMAO..."5oz. hockey pucks"I hate to say it...but if the mintages are low enough on these "hockey pucks" I may have to follow the series for a while and see where it goes. The designs I've seen really look quite nice.

well. the 5 oz. face value should have been $5.00 or more. a quarter face value look ugly and unrealistic.

I agree. Gold and silver are money. The function of the US Mint is to coin money. If they are going to make non-circulating items, they should be round, 1 ounce or less, primarily gold/silver content, and should have the classical look of coinage designed and engraved by someone who made it beyond ceramics class.

    2. changes the reverse of lincoln cent.

Yesterday I read an article (either in Coin World or Numismatic News) that the 5 Oz bullion coin will be sold through the same distribution channels as the bullion ASEs/AGEs. In other words, we won't be able to buy them directly from the Mint.

Each commemorated National Park/Monument will be able to buy their 5 Oz coins "at cost" (in lots no less than 1000) from the mint and repackage/resell the coins at the Park/Monument. I suspect there could be a scenario where these coins are sold out at the Mint, but still be available at the Park/Monument.

Fractional gold no. I'll pass. I feel the one ounce pieces hold the best potential of appreciation......

My brother talked me into buying silver bars almost one year ago. It's possible I may double my investment before 2010 gets here. I think the 5 oz. silver bullion coin coming out will increase the awareness of silver right along with its price.

When do we find out about the reverse of the 2010 lincoln cent...next week?

Well I would rather that we not go with these so we can get the proofs and uncs minted for sure if there is such a shortage this year why even bother doing the 5 oz. versions? Ridiculous!
