2010 American Silver Eagle

Ok gang, its time to get off this dreary subject of the 2009 ASE. Lets stop beating that horse.

There was this guest editorial in Coin World that suggested that ASE series as we know it should end. By skipping a year, the mint should start fresh and create a new ASE design. I agree with this. Something new to get things going.

What do you all think?

Do you think it will happen? Heck no....but still a good thought.

I like! :thumb: That gives the mint the ability to spread out the demand over 4 different coins. Great comment.

 

If they start making fractional silver like Mexico, they why not make the 2 oz. and 5 oz. as well??? They'll already have 5 oz. planchets for the big quarters they are making.

 

I really like the ASE design...the eagle on the reverse is really awesome!!


Here's something that strikes me a bit odd...

The Mint "claims" they can't make any Unc 2009(W) ASEs because...

...but you can still buy Unc 2008(W) ASEs and it's almost 2010. Are they still pressing these things out or did they make so many of them that they used up all the blanks for 2009 production?

 

Oh yea baby!!! I like that....hell ya I would go broke, but at least I would be happy doing it.

 

The 2008W that are still available are the ones in the US Mint dollar set. This is the left over stock that hasn't sold.

I was just wondering why they made so many that they're still on sale well past a year after their release date (August 2008)...or do folks just not what these things?

Do you think the current mintage figures include the unsold coins? Will they keep them on sale until they sell out or do you think they'll melt anything that's unsold after New Years? They wouldn't sell 2008 products in 2010, would they?

 

My guess is that they will continue to sell them until the very last one is sold. Don't expect to see any sales day coming up, but they do need to move these out. Maybe the mint doesn't want to make these sets anymore. By not coming out with the ASE coin this year, the ripple effect would be that they can not produce and of the 2009 US Mint One dollar sets. There were some of us who were trying to collect these too.

The last 3-5 years have been extremely strange with the mint canceling sets or collections with little or no notice. How are these years going to be remembered? Legacy sets....gone, US mint dollar sets.....gone (probably), buffalo fractionals.....gone, what else am i missing>>>> I know I am missing some...... When the Moy era ends, how will he be remembered???? For his UHR coin or all the screw ups in 2008 and 2009????

 

Very astute thoughts...and what are they replacing all these sets with? ...5 Oz silver hockey pucks...(geez). Well, I guess as long as they keep making my FS coins I'll be happy...

 

I would love it if they did a privy mark like the can mint. Something different anyways. Maples are much more fun to collect I think!

 

What if they do something like they do with the platinum coins (well "coin" now)
...same Obverse, but a different Reverse each year?

It is inevitable that the ASE series will end. The only thing in doubt is the year. But it seems unlikely that they would end it with record sales going on unless the industrial users of silver complained about the Mint purchases driving up costs. I don't think this has happened yet.

I do love the ASE coins, they really are sharp looking! But with a skipped year, it does make sense to change it. What might be kind of a cool thing, is to get a new obverse, and switch the reverse to the Walking Liberty half reverse. I dunno, just thinking out loud.

Maybe the new Obverse could be a great view of the statue of Liberty.......Nah, just keep it the same. It really is perplexing because it really stinks that they won't make them this year.....
