Thanks krispy and argento. You can even email them if you don't want to do the letter snail mail thing. http://www.senate.gov

Wouldn't it be great if they actually made them mint the '09 coins!

    Thanks again!

    Chuck

You know what Chuck, I keep thinking that the Mint must have produced an incredibly small amount of Proof 2009 ASEs and AGEs each, at least to get prepared for the eventuality of having to produce them... so let's say, could there be 1000, 2,500 of each laying around pending any last minute change? Could these be like the classic gold that had super low mintages that were never meant for distribution but ended up in collectors hands. Perhaps, a letter writing campaign by collectors to their government representatives might get the Mint to release via special auction these incredibly small amount of coins this year or in the next couple of years. The sale of which would net the Mint huge profits, the coins would not be a 'missing' date in the progression of these coin programs and collectors who cannot obtain an example due to cost and limited availability could only dream about them, but would also be stymied that they exist but will not be filling most collectors collection holes.

Just thinking about it... too much. LOL!

I just wanted to share the following with the thread.

I took the time today to draft a letter to both of my New York State Senators alerting them to my concerns regarding the Mint's October 6th press release announcing the 2009 ASE and AGE Proof coin product cancellations. I told them of my commitment to coin collecting over my lifetime, what collecting means to me and my devotion to collecting the coins issued in these coin programs over the 23 years they have existed.

I used the senate.gov link that Chuck posted above and wrote to them via web form on their respective web pages. This was the first time I'd ever written to any politician and I am not sure what to expect in any such response, but I did urge them to communicate my sentiments to the appropriate members and agencies in Washington and to reply to me if they would be able to do this on my behalf.

It was pretty neat to write to them and I think writing to one's elected officials may offer more potential than a complaint letter to Mr. Moy's office at the Mint. I have not yet contacted my local Representative as their web page was not enabled to accept emails (I was surprised by this!), so I may mail a copy of my letter to their office in the near future. You can find your Congress person's contact info at house.gov if you are so inclined.

Thank you Krispy! I believe that if nobody says anything, they think nobody cared anyway. But if people will take a few minutes and write to them, something will be said in their conferences, and just maybe they will do something about it.
Senators will never know what their constituents want or how they feel unless people care enough to write them and let them know.
    Thank you!
    Chuck

I also wrote to Senator McCaskill in Missouri for my Mom.

I don't ever want this to happen again, but I am still trying to get them to reverse the decision to not mint the 2009s. I don't want the holes in my collections!

I'm not giving up on 2009 yet. How hard could it be to make the 2009? They are all alike. It's not as if we were asking them to come up with a new design.

Thanks to everybody that writes or emails their Senators!

    Chuck

Charlie, I know this is going to sound cheezy, but maybe not........is there any way you can create one letter that we all can either cut and past or copy and sign and send to our gov officials? I know that the NFL network had me do this as a local "represetative". They typed up all these letters and sent them to me. All I had to do was sign my name. I got responses from nearly every person I mailed those letters to. It would be so easy to take a letter that was already written and mail it out. Let us know what you think and if you would be willing to take this upon yourself and do it for the group. Sounds like you already have letters that you sent, why not share them with all of us. Surely we can get the message sent. Thoughts? Joe

I think that a group 'petition' letter may be a good idea to send to the Mint and Treasury regarding the collecting communities concerns and dissatisfaction over the decisions being made. But writing to one's own state elected officials and perhaps copying them on the petition letter sent to the Mint the Treasury sends a personal state by state, personal message to those leaders. Does a Senate member look at a list of signatures from people coming from various states and consider representing all these voices or only focus on concerns of fellow state residents? I definitely think that a letter formulated around CT members concerns regarding these coin product cancellations could be quiet effective and even be used by other forums out there also concerned, sent separately to deliver the same message under those organizations.

Don't sweat the formalities of grammar, etc. One's own words send the best message of your interests, passions and opinions to your Representatives and Senators. So please don't let that stop you from writing to them. :thumb:
