What to buy? 10 ounce Apmex bars or generic 1 ounce rounds?

I'm sitting here trying to decide whether or not to bite on Apmex's spot +.69 for the 10 ounce bars. If I fool around long enough, the sale will end and the decision will have been made by me dragging my feet.

I think that this is a decent price for silver, but I can buy the same weight for spot + .59 if I go for generic rounds.

I own some ASEs and would love to get more, but they're much more (relatively) so I'm not looking into them right now.

I'm assuming that 1 ounce rounds are easier to sell / barter / etc... than a 10 ounce bar.

I'm also thinking that the generic rounds will probably be the manhandled verses uncirculated. Other than for a collector value, are the uncirculated much better than the generic, unwrapped rounds?

    Thanks!

Silver is silver and My belief is that the 1 oz. bars will better serve your purpose in case you wish to sell . I posted earlyer today about breaking a $20 . if ya stop and break a $20 in the morning to buy a coffee how much do you think you'll have left by the time you get home. If you can afford to buy larger bars etc.. then do so...but if you're trying to build up some hard money Bullion/ silver then think small one never knows when one will need to sell some to help out in a jam. IMHO

My thoughts are to buy the 1 oz bars and round for ten cents cheaper. I like to have them in rounds, so if I need to part with a couple I can without selling a large bar.

    I bought generic rounds

I got them for .59 over rather than the .69 for the 10 ounce bars.

Hopefully the rounds won't look too bad. But either way, like you say, silver is silver.

And you're right. $20 in the morning is change in the evening.

Friday, I broke a $20 for coffee. At the end of the day, when I emptied out my pockets, I had $7.43 left when I got home.

So, what's the lesson we are supposed to take away from that fable?

    Use a debit card? use 2 $10's instead of a $20?

I think the lesson is that you are losing about $4,500 annually without actually thinking about where it goes. If you think about what you could do with an extra $4,500 in the way of coin purchases, vacations, investments, etc..., maybe it will help you keep your wallet closed.

I think the best course is to buy what you like at the time and don't worry about small differences in price. It's all silver. ASEs cost more but are worth more in a resale, so the entry price isn't as important as it looks.

Very true ..that's why I bought a pound of coffee for my coffee maker and not the single serve $4.50 Starbucks brew.

Where I used to work, 3/4 of the employees made over $250K. The money that slipped through their hands daily could have amounted to a room full of bullion.

I went through the same concerns and questions as you. I initially bought a few 1 oz bars, 10 oz bars, and 1 oz rounds. I then decided that 10 oz bars was the best form factor based on easier handling and storage, and that selling a $170 bar would be no more problem than selling a $17 round or bar. All my recent purchases have been 10 oz bars.

I don't consider a few cents difference in premiums to be important -- unless you are buying a few hundred thousand dollars worth.

The only names I really hear people specifically looking for are Englehard and Johnson Mathey. When it comes time to sell silver is silver UNLESS a dealer needs to fill an order for the aforementioned.
That is basically. There are always exceptions.

Since you work directly with customers on both sides of the transaction, people should give your opinion a lot of consideration.

I treat myself to dunkin donuts sometimes but rarely. I drink a lot more DD's ice coffee as I like it better than their regular hot coffee. I practically never buy starbucks. Not that I don't like them, but I don't know how to order them.

And that's a good thing considering their price.

I just make my own coffee at home, I don't know what the big deal is why people just don't do it. A huge maxwell jar costs me about $7. And it lasts at least a month or two.

Back to silver. I like the apmex 10oz silver bars. I bought some a month ago and they look nice. There are slight price differences but who really cares. Life is short, enjoy your PM's whether silver/gold etc....

I've already made the decision if I buy anymore silver, it will either be 1oz ASE or 10oz silver bars, and mmmmmaybe 1oz silver bars.

I ended up buying 100 generic rounds then, the other day 20 5 oz bars. I bought the rounds at $18.20 and the bars when silver dipped to $16.20.

Once they (eventually!) get here, I'll see which I like better. Then I'm going to wait and watch for another dip.

I collect ASE's, among other things, and just started collecting 10oz silver bars. The 10oz bars are a novelty to me so I'm trying to buy one of each from the different suppliers.

How much did you pay for shipping handling?

    I paid Apmex's regular for over $1000. $24.95.

I'd love to find it cheaper and with a lower S&H!

    Still waiting...

I'm still waiting on the 5 toz bars to arrive. I think that I'm going to like these. While they've going to be a bit more difficult (IMHO) to trade if needed, I think that they're going to be a pretty neat addition to my growing collection.

I just can't bring myself to buy non-numismatic silver at these prices. I used to pick some up now and then in the late 1990's and early 2000's (when you could get a roll of SAE's for $125).

    question?

what exactly does SAE mean and how does it affect the value exactly.

sorry the user name kinda explains this question.
