Very hard, not knowing how long they will be on sale. 2009 only? could be very little produced. many already produced? could they remain on sale until they sell out in 2010 and we get no 2010 AGB Proof/program end? also could be a money coin despite greater than 50K minted in that scenario. A very difficult one to tackle right now. Gold price, if thought by the Mint, to fall, might limit production as well leaving a small mintage only available in 2009 for sale. Very hard to figure out at the moment.

    What are your ideas elaine?

    just like your ideas.

good for us: the best way the mint can surprise us is to cut off after said 20,000 and declare sold out. end it on dec. 31 without informing the public.

good for the mint: other way that the mint can make more money and gain more sales is to lower its price chart by one bracket. price $1,310.00

Do you think there is anything that can be done to save the 2009 ASE Proof and the 2009 AGE Proof production?

I have written letters to Senators. I wonder if it would help if we all sent letters, or is this an unreversable decision?

    New Thread?

Chuck: Did you see this CoinNews story about the tease in the Mint Image Library.

Thanks krispy! I had not seen that yet. I was amazed at how much it resembled my letters to some senators. 23 years of collecting these, and now after advertising them in their pressroom website, they just decide they won't mint them this year? I'm really hot over this! I don't know know if it will do any good, probably not, but I am getting to vent by writing letters. I started by writing to Tom Coburn and Jim Inhofe, and will continue from there on. I also wrote the White House, but I may not get much from that after the last letter I mailed there regarding the route our nation is taking. I did get a response letter with the little White House embossed on it.

Thanks again. I hope everybody writes their representatives.

    Chuck

So I bought a one tenth ounce unc coin last year from a work buddy for $150.00. I see them going now on ebay for about $550. How much more growth potential is there on this coin?

the current high price of 08w fractional gold will not down to where it was. it was set at current price as a base. when gold came down $50.00. you will see those fractional gold came down too. but for 1/10 oz. it will be $5.00 less from the high price or current base price. for one ounce gold. it will down $50.00. like $2,450.00 to $2,650.00 will became $2,400.00 to $2,600.00.

I got my first response back from one of the senators. I wish everyone would write their senator. Many of them do not even know they decided to omit 2009.

    Dear Mr. omitted:

Thank you for your recent correspondence. As your public servant in Washington, I am glad you brought the stop-production on the 2009 American Eagle Silver Proof and the 2009 American Eagle Gold Proof coin to my attention. I will certainly look more closely at this issue. I rely on constituents like you to keep me informed of matters of importance to you. When you give me your feedback, I can then share it with Congress and, in turn, the nation.

The issues important to Oklahomans are not always the top priority at the federal agencies, in the news media, and elsewhere; but they are of the utmost importance to me. As your Senator, I will see to it that our state's values, traditions, and needs are voiced and acknowledged.

Again, thank you for sharing your concerns and please do not hesitate to contact me in the future.

That's great Chuck! A little form-letter sounding but a decent courtesy and in recognition of your letter, their duties. I'm not sure how to address the issue to my own state Senate / Reps as I've never written to them before but I would like to also do something like this, even if it helps to ensure future coin programs have no hiccups such as the ones we experienced this year.

Thanks krispy. I agree it's a courtesy letter, but I do think he will inquire about them. If there were 30-40 more senators inquiring about them, maybe something could be done. It's not like they have to design a coin! Just change the 08 to a 09 and get on with minting them.

I have 14,181 at the moment. You can create a new thread and offer to give them away but they will continue to add up with every post you make. I believe members who wish to place ads use the points to pay for the ads you see on the forum.
