Does Airtite or any other company make holders for the 1lb silver bullion coins? Got a few today and they're still in the plastic, ewwwwww.
Last I checked, ASE's come in one size variety and that's the one ounce dollar. Did you buy it off of TV or something?
Bullion is measured in troy weight in which 480 grains equals one ounce, and although the term is rarely used today, a pound equals 12 ounces. The word "pound" by itself generally is taken to mean an avoirdupois pound, consisting of 16 ounces, each consisting of 437.5 grains. No knowledgeable refiner, mint, or other producer of bullion products would describe a piece as weighing a pound of 16 ounces. Chances are your purchase came from a scammer.

Looks like a silver round. I'm not aware of an official Mint product like this, and if you notice, there's no denomination on it. Normally, the AE have the denomination. It doesn't mean that it doesn't have the correct amount of silver in it. But the product looks like it's from a private mint of some sort. Look on the edge for more info, like fineness. Request the source.
For clarity, please permit a couple of additions... Another number I find useful is 14.583...the number of troy ounces in an avoirdupois pound.
I own a silver ASE, and it is one troy pound, 12 ounces. Is yours marked .999 fine silver? I have seen them with 'one pound' on them, but they were questionable material.
These are not US Mint products, but rather an item that is produced by an outside vendor that has no association with the mint.
The certificate of authenticity lists the weight as...over one pound (16 oz troy/17.5 AVDP). That is where the confusion begins. If you have a accurate scale, weigh it and see if it is 17.5 oz. Don't know if this will tell you its silver but a good start.
.999 fine silver and it IS just a hair under 16ozs (not troy lb) proof 1992 (10 of them) private mint all with serial #'s (washington mint i believe) got them fr0m an oldtimer needing funds and 6 sets of P-D-S 1921 Morgans for $20 each set! i just let him tell me how much he wanted i wont divulge the price on the 160 ozs of cheezy proof lb ASE's (wannabes) got a miraculous deal, some people must not watch markets/news...:thumb: I'll post pix if need be

Just an opinion...and I'm not passing judgment...but I think I would have said something to the poor guy. I love getting a deal as much as the next guy...I just hope when I grow old, folks will wait 'till I die before tearing down the bed curtains. I guess that's why I'll never become a very good numismatist.
I offered more $$$ but he was fine with his asking price. i know he made some quid because he gave me all the original paperwork which came with the bullion and the 1921 Morgan sets. Since posting this thread I did a little research, predominantly to the "Washington Mint" which is now "Collectible America" and from what I can tell IMHO they are not as integrity/collector based as they once were as Washington Mint. They do have a decent selection at "ok" prices (lil' high) Anyhow I want to get the Air-Tite holders for these puppies! And put them in the safe on coin-easels I have 1/2 lb Proof Liberty Dollars (NORFED, Bernard von NotHaus design) lined up and these would look purdy in a line behind them... Just gotta see if there are capsules for them.
I know its an old thread but I am doing research on this as I bought one and was charged 16 Oz. I was worried but no longer. Seems mine, a 1990 says its one pound of 0.999 and it weighs the following: 17.6Oz, 7702 grains, 499 grams, 16.05 Troy Oz. All that is good but this is the most important thing I found on research, I found the exact one. Seems they did not make these later like this and started with the Troy Pound verbiage. Anyhow, this will at least have this thread as a resource for someone else. Silver is getting harder to get.
