    Oh, yes!

In sunlight, if you look obsessively closely, the edges of the letters in "E Pluribus Unum" have a look that I'd call "frosted". There are white sparklies in a uniform thin line. Is that just the normal appearance of the crystal grain of the metal going around a corner?

I have been looking at the fractional buffalos a lot lately, it seems because they were a seemingly 1 year issue and fairly low mintage it is driving the prices up like crazy. $5 Gold buffalos are going for about $500 and $10 are going for about $900+. I would like to put a set together as I recently picked up a $50 2008 but the rest of the fractionals are a bit much to for me just yet. I like the buffalos but I think that everyone should have at least 1 of the UHR's in their collection.

Personally I just picked up a 2008 W $5 American Eagle with a mintage of 13,376, and a 2008 W $10 American Eagle with a mintage of only 9,200 for $600 sight unseen. Maybe it was from someone on here:) They are original in mint packaging and not graded so I hope they are nice coins:eek:

CT has proven educational. I've been collecting more than 25 years and still learn things. CT has also proven to be intertaining, and profitable. I've been in many fun conversations, and watched many more.
I own most all of the $50 gold pieces for many years back, but never collected the smaller ones except for the early Indianhead gold. I guess I would have to say that Elaine's comments inched me towards buying the 2008 $10 W Gold, along with the 8-8-8 Prosperity Set last year. I think Green and I were amoungst the very last people that were able to get those items from the mint before they ran out, making those investments very profitable.
Thanks for everyone's comments and input over the last year.

this week mint is still gonna have to raise its gold products. even the gold roll back to 950.00/999.99 level. why?. because the average prices of gold is still over $1,000.00. let's see what will the mint do on wednesday.

People are going to be shocked at the new prices, I think sales will drop off now quite a bit.

I know I wouldn't spend that much on a UHR! That coin is vastly overpriced for a bullion coin!. I bet the sales on the UHL at the mint and secondary market will plummet!. People will have to sell at a great loss on that one!.

let's ask the mint to lower the price chart by one or two brackets. or else the sales can not improve.

Good for the people who bought the coins at least $100.00 less than today's Mint price...

now it is $1,389.00. but i think to wait for $1,339.00 or $1,289.00 again is very possible. just wait and see.

Yep, the Mint is updating prices at this moment.
It's definitely worth waiting through the next 4-5 weeks to buy gold products from the US Mint.

UHR double eagle sales figures now at 94,464. it should hit 100,000 by next month.

It sounds like a lot of these coins are being shipped overseas so that is adding to the high sales.

For a coin with this much interest, is 100,000 considered a high mintage?

I took the premium over bullion out of my art budget and am treating it as an expense, but it seems prudent to keep one eye on resale value anyway.

It's never going to be rare, but is 100,000 enough to rule out a premium in the future? Has there been anything comparable in history that could be used as a comparison, something that had a high supply but also a high worldwide demand?

Hey elaine, just wondering, is the ASG a new mint product? American Silver Goose? Goat? Griffin? Gecko? Grasshopper? Giraffe? Gnat? Goldfish? Gopher? Maybe you should hold off on those 10 pcs of FS Polks and UHRs since the price increases that just went in effect and get in on this G-thang. :mouth:

This has proven to be a great thread. I remember when everyone was so upset because they weren't filling the orders in the order as the mint received them. Those were some pretty exciting days. I was one of the first to get one and I remember wanting to leave it sealed and just put it in the safety deposit box at the bank, but then got scared that I better make sure it was in there and not defective. I haven't seen it since that day when I took it to the bank. It appears to have been a good thing to have been one of the first to order and getting it for $1189. Some thought it was too much at $1189.
I remember when I went to my bank back in 1977 and had then order me my first gold bar for around $200. It took about a week to get it, and that seemed like a lot of money back then. Then again, a brand new loaded Camaro was not $40k either.

One day before long, perhaps $1389 might not seem to be too much for the UHR.

    Good luck to all!
    Chuck
