Watch out! I got my ears slapped back for suggesting there may be wiser investments than bullion.

with mintage at 80,700. the UHR double eagle might hit 110,000 by the end of 2009.

with 10 pc maximum offered by the mint. the market will have some 20,000 pc ready to dump the UHR double eagle to near bullion value.

I agree with this, I am waiting to get one slabbed at a discount. If it never happens I know folks with these coins that I can look at any time so no big deal. :)

With the high mintage they should always be available if you change your mind and want more. :) They are just so small in hand and in many ways I prefer the gold buffalo.

thanks CrustyCoins. i have to re-think it again. one UHR or two low mintage tyler's spouses.

Don't commit to any specific type/weight or bullion. You seem to like the UHR,so just buy one & stop rethinking it. Then shop around for the best $ prices on 999.9 gold & your budget before prices go higher, hope this helps, you won't regret buying the UHR no matter what the mintage goes too, because it's a collectible not a buy & sell commodity like bullion.

I don't know, elaine, you should definitely rethink the spouse purchase. Spouse coins are like new cars, you lose money just by taking delivery. The secondary market for these is extremely weak. Collecting spouses is like an extreme sports version of coin collecting, you might get killed (in the wallet) but you don't care because that's the kind of risk-taker you are.

The UHR on the other hand, despite a strong boost in sales, is still going strong in the secondary market at a premium over and above the Mint's retail price. Plus, even if you don't like it personally, it is still thought of as the most attractive coin ever created -- along side the original sitting in the Smithsonian, of course. It's basically the coin for wimpy coin collectors who really don't want any risk, kind of like bowlers.

mint increase its family limit to 25 from 10. this clearly further downward the UHR double eagle to just a bullion coin. it will also affect the UHR palladium coin. all these should be a popular bullion coin in the future.

That household increase goes into effect August 31.
    See the earlier post #770

Given the attention to detail in design and packaging plus the marketing to the collector, this is hardly, 'just a bullion coin'. UHRs seem quite popular already they just lay outside the reach of a lot of people's spending/budget this year or buyers await Buffalo and Proof AGEs so hold off UHR orders. The palladium doesn't exist yet and remains to be seen under any of these speculative circumstances.

It is truly a collector coin and should not be thought of as an investment at it's current premiums.

I am still torn on if I will get one or not since I can't afford the original.

We all are differnt, and some from different countries.

Did you ever consider that english might not be the first

I did, then I remembered other posts where she took the time to actually make a proper sentence. I believe she is totally capable of doing this.

    Good addition

My personal feelings are that she adds something to the forum.
Many professional authors have trouble spelling, and proper grammer when on a roll.
I see I missed a key on the subject.

I never said she didn't offer something to the forum, I'm actually glad she's on here. I just get annoyed by her chopped up sentences

Takes a while Dani but after a bit of time you begin to take in the "style" of Elaines posts.

gold closed at $945.50. when we talk about bullion value. the mint will be selling UHR double eagle at $973.86. so the market price will be around $1,000.00.
