I don't think its over graded nice strong strike and perfect bands I can care less about the toning though and imagine the CAC is not there.

Frankly, I can’t opine with any confidence on a toner. Trust your own eyes.

Don’t go by the photo. That is probably a scan, which never shows detail or toning very well.

No it's not. NGC and CAC both agreed and both saw it in hand

Sorry to say it looks like something I dug up metaldetecting. IMO

:( Too me, this toning, the spotting like this, it is damage to the surface. I've seen mercs like this up close and they look chipped in apearance. I also am not happy with the obverse hair. I can't tell from the images if this have and hits. The toning is just too much of a distraction. Maybe it will be different in the live auction.

This is proof that photography is everything when selling a coin.

I'm just showing why you can't just a coin by scans or lousy photos. They only tell part if the story.

I get your point but they overgrade sometimes and we're just going off the pictures provided. If the latter aren't true and accurate representations, where are we going? Likewise, if CAC had your first pictures, do you seriously think they'd bean it? And if they wouldn't, we'd grade it the same way off those first pictures, wouldn't we?

No, it is not over graded. I think it is a good looking coin, with excellent surface preservation.

They overgrade sometimes. I didn't say they overgraded this time. Based on the first pictures it looked like they did, not on the second pictures.

Is that the same Franklin Half? BTW - it is not like that with the Merc. The Merc has motted toning that is usually flatout ugly in the hand.

They don’t grade off pictures so not sure what you’re trying to get at. The point has been how pictures can impact what a coin looks like. In all honesty it’s naive at best to say that a first tier TPG and CAC both got something wrong based off of pictures
