thats what the guy at the coin shop said to do. and where me and my dad cut it you almost cant tell it just lokks shinier than the rest.

i sent some pics to a link someone on my metal detecting forum gave me, because he thinks its and old spanish gold bar

 

that cut looks SUPER obvious in the new pics, even with all the over exposure from your light source being picked up from the camera. too bad you didn't follow some of the suggestions here after your inquiry before going with that of your local coin shop's suggestion, and especially since they had no idea what they were dealing with. that boggles me. it might be a hard lesson learned if you do end up having an item of antique value above that of any PM value. you may also have lost potential/interested buyers (if this is real) who were trying to help you but after this cut you could easily have turned them away. hope you saved the dust/shavings from your cut if this turns out to be gold.

 

Well said, I didn't feel like saying any of it because I'm disappointed. I hope you still get a good price for it, but you should really take your time on these things instead of being rash.

I was thinking along the same lines, that no one would be, pardon my use of words, stupid enough to do that. I'm on the fence with this one. Post a picture of the bar with your name underneath, then I can feel slightly better and try to help more

 

also given the scale in the photos posted today with this bar (ingot?) propped up on the edge of a PSP game box, does this look like it could be 200gm or 6.5oz worth of metal?

I can't believe you cut that bar, my god, you should have asked here before doing that. I hate to say it but you probably dropped the value quite a bit by cutting it.

To me it looks like a dore bar, probably very old. Anyway what you did is sort of like finding a very old gold coin and taking a saw and cutting the edge to see if it is gold. The guy at the coin shop must be a $%^%.
