I recently picked up 3 1oz bars. Last night I say what looked like a scratch on one. After closer examination it’s turned out to be a scratch in the silver plating. A little work with a knife and I managed to peal off a small strip of plating, revealing a pewter interior. :headbang: Bad stuff… keep your eyes open
That's amazing. I haven't heard of bars being counterfeited before except some Engelhard bars in the 1970s or 80's. Can you post a photo so we know what to look for?
I also found this web sight with photos of the fake silver and other collectables now being sold on E Bay. It might be a useful reference for some folks here! http://china-mint.info/fake-coin-images.html
Very good site from the look of it and it should prove useful to many here, thanks for posting the link Yankee :hail:
I myself have never bought anything from E Bay I have read countless stories about people having trouble from sellers there. I know most (hopefully) are honest there but I prefer to pay a little more from places like APMEX for my bullion buys. I guess I sleep better staying away from E Bay. (just my opinion)
In defence of Ebay there are very good sellers on there unfortunatly it is the rotten ones who get the publicity. This morning I recieved 2 of the new 2 Euro coins (Emu) the 1st seller not only had it in a plastic flip but also enclosed in a nice little draw cord bag LOL and the 2nd came with a extra coin. Neither overcharged me for the coins and shipping was very reasonable (1 from Portugal and the other from Cyprus) Yet it is rare that there actions are reported here and elsewere. So thank you goes out to taygeton and fameshow :hail:
They didn’t come from Ebay but from a local shop. The shop refunded all my money and let me keep the bar I cut in half with a ban saw. The 2 bars I didn’t destroy are under weight, .916oz. Couldn’t take any better photos, I’ll borrow a camera try later.
