Not sure where to post this so I chose bullion as that's what it is to me. I only have 7 of them as that was all the person had that I bought them from. They are dated (cancelled) in 1971 and 1972. There was a $.02 increase during this time frame which is noted by the stamp. Each one is a First Day Postal Cover of the Historic Sites of America with an attached 25 gram Sterling Silver round. I normally wouldn't have had any interest in them but the price was very low. Enjoy!
I went to see Chimney Rock in 2014. One day Chimney Rock will collapse but as of today it is still standing. With that said, Chimney Rock was closed for six months starting in December 2019 so the visitor center could be renovated. Chimney Rock is now open again while Chimney Rock Museum is currently closed due to the response to the virus from Wuhan in China.
Lol and yes. In 1971 it was 6 cents but it was raised to 8 cents in 1972. It was cheaper than than originally. Look at the bright side. In the 1860's it was $5.00 gold for a half ounce letter. Those horses ate a lot of hay. Lol
I'm embarrassed to say that I've been to all those places EXCEPT St. Gauden's homestead. I just added it to my bucket list.
At first I thought the 6-cent stamp and the 8-cent stamp were there for some other reason related to the medal. Then I read your statement about the 2-cent increase. I remember a post here from John Milton stating that the 3-cent piece was minted mostly so people could pay for the 3-cent stamps.
I have a daughter, 3 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren in Nebraska (Lincoln area). One day when I visit I would like to get out that way.
Trying to wrap my early morning brain around this...... These are USPS issues postcards with a silver medallion affixed to the postcard? That’s very intriguing and I never before seen such a thing. Very cool, Dave.
There are sealed envelopes. Stamped, cancelled carefully to get the cancelled art work and these have the silver attached to them to raise more money.
Why travel the world when beauty, history, and adventure is in our own backyard! America, when was it not great...
I use to travel a great bit when I was working in Atlanta. Now that my wife and I are retired, we still can travel, even if there wasn't a Covid virus killing everyone. We have to stay home with our 4 leg children: Salvatore (cat), Belle (chiweenie), Beau (ciphus) (another chiweenie), Samanta (rotweiller), Rockie (some type of terrier), Nikko (Pit Bull mix), and Tag (for Tag a long) (Australian Sheep Dog). As you see, no travel, but we do collect stamps. But my favorite hobby is coin collecting and reading these blogs. Thanks to all for keeping us hopping.
Here's a Philatelic/Numismatic cover to commemorate the First Day release of the 2001 Buffalo Silver Dollar. I'm pretty sure this uncirculated, although they did release a proof also.
