I expect those prices to crash once they start circulating more.

I am rethinking what I believe will happen regarding the availability of the UHR.

When the UHR per household policy was announced, the Mint stated explicitly that this would be re-evaluated weekly -- this message still remains on the UHR product page. Now that we see the current state of affairs, I am beginning to think the policy is permanent for the duration of this coin's availability.

Take, for instance, the known difficulties in procuring sufficient blanks for legally mandated mintage of AGE. As far as we can tell, this isn't going to change anytime soon. Removing the 1-per-household policy on the UHR would presumably have the effect of ramping up production for those coins. Ramping up production in light of blank shortages in their other, legally mandated bullion offerings would make little sense.

Now that the majority of the initial UHR's have been minted and shipped, demand has slowed to a trickle. Despite the reduced demand, the 1-per-household policy remains. It's possible the Mint wants to see a sustained lack of demand before it changes its policy but I am betting that if we don't see that change happen by the beginning of May, when many predict this current slack in overall demand for gold will hit bottom, then we won't see it happen at all.

Personally, I would like to see the 1-per-household policy remain in place. This would limit the mintage and ensure some form of rarity for this coin. As I hinted at before, I think we're about to see this year's bottom for the price of gold (and thus, the lowest available price for the UHR) sometime in early May, maybe late May/early June.

What does everyone else think? Are we nearing a pricing sweet spot that could yield big dividends if the 1-per-household rule remains in effect?

I understand what you are saying and any other time I would say that it has been long enough for the mint to take off the 1 per household restriction. But based on how this could negatively impact the other gold coins, I also think it may be wise to keep the restriction on until the mint can find a way to get out of this mess.

For years I was always crying that the mint should limit their orders per household. Ever since I was not able to order the 2001 Buffalo commems, I have been saying that. Then came along the 2006 AGE set. I think they had a max of 5 per household. Once again, I complained. Especially for a set with a max of 20000 limit, it is only fair to limit it to one per household to allow more people the opportunity to own a beautiful set.

I was a somewhat perturbed with the mint last Friday. My mother collects coins, but she could never afford one of these, so I ordered one for her and was having it mailed to her house...they cancelled the line. That just didn't set well with me.

Was it made with the same credit card or a CC with the same billing and account holder's name?

Mom is old and we take care of her finances, she doesn't have cards. I ordered it on my account on my card. After they cancelled it, I called in and told the lady what was going on, but she just said uh-huh, sure, I'm sorry but your item has been cancelled because it is one per household. I tried to explain it was for my Mom and it was for her and being sent to her house because she can't afford it. She didn't believe me in the least. If I just wanted another one for me I would have gotten somebody at work to order one for me. It's just the principle that is upsetting. You try and be honest with them, and it won't work.

Well, Charlie, look on the bright side. The strict adherence in your case means dealers aren't easily scamming the system and then turning around and jacking the prices in the secondary market. They are upholding the principle that is intended to protect the interests of individual collectors over those of the dealers. Surely we can applaud that, no?

I just got back from the UPS depot and had a chance to open the package. This is incredible. It has such luster and shine to it! Stunning, just stunning. The care that must have gone into making this item must have been incredible. This really makes it worth the money. Oh, yeah, the coin is nice too. :D

LOL! Just kidding. This has to be by far, the most incredible packaging the US mint has ever done. The coin is wonderful! Wasn't there supposed to be lettering on the edge? Mine is plain.

Just kidding with that too! LOL! If only I could see the look on some of your faces!

For UHR I think ordering now is good to lock in price and then just watch and cancel/re-order if the price drops further.

the mint should stop selling the UHR double eagle and most spouses gold now. because most people got it already. and the shortage of blanks. the mint should focus those available blanks for other popular and new gold issues. such as buffalo one ounce proof, eagle one ounce proof and eagle one ounce unc with w mint mark.
