If I'm not mistaken the Mint tolerance is 7 degrees for each die and I think it starts at 15 to be considered and error...noting below that. I might be wrong thou...
Official Mint tolerance is 27 Degrees, and they are not considered collectable unless they are at least 45 degree rotated, either clockwise or counterclockwise. It is rotated there 15 degrees you mention, and it's interesting, but it's not a true Rotated Reverse.
Wouldn't 7 degrees (CW) and 7 degrees (CCW) be 14 degrees? Close enough! It may be considered an error at 15 degrees, but you probably won't find too many error dealers that would care about anything less than 90 degrees. Perhaps @Fred Weinberg will chime in to give us his view on this.
It makes perfect sense for the 45 degrees...it's obvious and you don't have to measure it to see it's there. I did't know about the 27 degrees thou.
I need to get me one of these Die Rotation tools (like in OP's images) - does anyone have a link/reference handy for me to download. I have been using a mirror & protractor, like an idiot. :ugh:
If you don't have the RR gauge, you can do most RR's this way If the top of the reverse points to 1:30 CW) or 10:30 (CCW), it's a 45 degree rotation. If the reverse points to 3:00 or 9:00, it's a 90 degree rotation If the reverse points to 6:00. it's a 180 degree rotated reverse. Just figure degree's based on those, plus/minus
Yes it appears to be off by a little but it's well within tolerance. It certainly wouldn't grab my attention it's off by such a small amount.
