Today I went to the gas station to buy a soda. It was like $1.07 or something like that so I gave him 2x $1 bills and I got something nice back in the change.

    Can you spot it? ^_^

Basically I made money from my trip. Lol.

    Good eye! :)

Yeah I know what you mean!

Ive gotten a few 40% silver half dollars as change but I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a 90% silver one.

    GOLD??

How the heck were people finding gold??

I can’t think of any coin in circulation that could be misidentified with a gold coin.

I mean it’s not like JFK Half’s where some are silver and the later ones are not.

Can you please explain more about people finding gold coins in circulation?

If I recall correctly, someone may have mentioned that they found a fractional Krugerrand in a Coinstar reject slot last year.

    Aw c’mon just tell me!

Or can you post a link so I can see it?

I don’t think I have the patience to read through 10 years of forum threads. :/

    Oh wow!!

I mean that is kinda iffy because I wouldn’t really call it “in circulation”, but rather a lost coin.

Do you know if anyone has found gold coins in circulation? Like in their change?

Yeah so that’s kind of what I mean I don’t think it was a relatively common thing like finding silver coins today.

The only thing I could possibly think of would be someone misidentifying a small gold $1 coin as a penny.

Something like this. Even then they would have to have pretty bad eyesight.

Not in circulation i remember on an old c.t thread someone found a $1 gold liberty head in a pennie roll the olds of that happening now is like a 1 in 500 million chance to win the mega million.

Nobody I know has ever found any gold in circulation. Regardless, you'd be surprised as to what some of our posters have found in the Coinstar reject slot.

One time on here some years ago I read of someone finding a $5 gold coin in a machine wrapped roll of dimes. It's rare but it can happen.

A ten dollar eagle is nearly the same size as a "golden" modern dollar, with similar color. I wonder if one ever ended up in a roll somewhere?

Most likely someone has to slip once in a while.

    Of course I did!

Not in those exact words, but I did ask if he had any more Half Dollars.

He had a few but they weren’t silver ones. They were the later dates. :(
