    Hello everyone,

This is my first post and I'm glad to announce that my high relief arrived this morning. I was one of those who ordered the coin within the first half hour and was somewhat frustrated to see order numbers significantly higher than mine delivered first. After examining the coin my frustration disappeared.

The design and workmanship is excellent. The high relief design is what caused me to get the coin. After examining closely it reminded me of a Saint-Gaudens sculpture exhibit I had seen. Going back and reviewing the photos that I had taken I found the foundation for the design of this coin.

The coin has many similarities to the sculpture "Victory" which was produced between 1892 to 1903. This statue is dedicated to the Civil War hero William Tecumseh Sherman (1820–1891). The front of the statue is similar to the obverse and the statues wings are the wings of the eagle on the reverse.

I'd like to post the photos of the statue that I took of this statue but I not sure how to attach them since there on my laptop. Oh well...

As to the mints fulfillment process, I'm sure they will work out the bugs. I installed a number of high volume fulfilment applications in my career and I can appreciate some of the hurdles their going through. The one thing I can't understand is the lack of security in the mints order tracking application. All they need to do is password protect the tracking feature or place it behind the "My Account" login page.

I'm just glad to have the coin....:D

You can find out a lot more about the design and its evolution from reading Roger Burdette's wonderful Renaissance of American Coinage 1905-1908, (vol. I) or, for more concise information, Cornelius Vermeule's Numismatic Art in America.

Thanks for the information George. I found a book by Cornelius Vermeule's Numismatic Art in America on ebay. I'll probably get it because I really enjoy the creative design in many of the US coins. It's probably why I've collected most of the platinum proofs.

Here are a couple of the photo's of Saint-Gaudens "Victory" sculpture

    Hope this works....

Argento!!! That's what I'm talkin' 'bout! Yeah!!

Great pic of the coin and the box! Yours if the first one of the box that does it better justice. The lights reflecting off of it shows just how deep the finish is on the box. The coin and the box are stunning, but just box itself is a work of art!
    Congrats!

Thanks for the compliments on the pics, guys.
Charlie, you are absolutely right. The box is gorgeous and compliments the coin beautifully.

The coin itself is flawless but the coin holder makes it look otherwise in the pics. Like everyone else's coin holder, mine doesn't fit the coin perfectly. I hate taking pictures of the coin inside the holder but I didn't have the time to calmly sit down and gently remove it so that I could air it off and take a pic of the coin itself. Maybe later tonight.

what's the reason why not the mint produce the proof instead of uncirculated?.

The first edition was a classic of numismatic art criticism for many years, published in the 1970s sometime, I believe although I don't have that one. Vermeule (who was quite the character himself) came out with a second edition in 2007 shortly before his death in November 2008. Much of the earlier comments are the same but there is added commentary (by another author, David Alexander) on Statehood quarters, American Arts gold medals, SBA, modern commems etc. I would definitely get that one, given your interests. It's published by Whitman and probably available on amazon.com and most numismatic booksellers. Good luck!

PS Beautiful pictures of the "Victory" statue. I believe that statue is in NYC, Central Park. The head actually served as model for the ten dollar gold, with feathers added at the suggestion of President Roosevelt.

I wish the holder was better. Is there any upgrade that would still work in the case?

2009 High Relief Gold Eagle UNIQUE EDGES

I believe each coin may be unique. E pluribus Unum may be in a slightly different location on the edge. One photo attached is from the US Mint. The other is my High Relief Double Eagle. Notice the difference in spacing of the star and the E. On my coin the star and E are closer to the line that dissects the edge. Check your coin for these differences.

I looped the coin and found star points missing from the star closest to the I in LIBERTY. Check yours too.

Have you found any actual coins that are different?

Argento..What kind of camera did you use? My colors are not coming out as true or as clear as yours. I use a Samsung 7.0 w/macro and no flash. I wish I could have taken some better pics of mine. I still gotta keep looking back at the deep shine and gold script on your UHR Box because mine is already in one of my safety deposit boxes at my bank. If somebody could get a really good pic up close, it would probably even make a good avatar.
