Of course I had to remove the vital data, but here is what tracks on UPS:

Your package is on time with a scheduled delivery date of 03/02/2009.

    Tracking Number: REMOVED
    Type: Package
Status: In Transit - On Time
Your shipment is moving within the UPS network and should be delivered on the Scheduled Delivery Date. A shipment can remain in this status until it is delivered. Other than time-definite air deliveries, shipments are generally delivered anytime between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. to residences, and by close of business for commercial addresses. UPS cannot schedule a specific delivery time within that window.

What should I do if I'm expecting a delivery?
This is the most up-to-date information about the status of your shipment. For residential deliveries that require a signature, you can leave instructions for the driver if no one will be home. For example, you can ask that it be delivered to a neighbor who will be home. Shipments that don't require a signature can be left in a safe place at the driver's discretion.

    In Transit - On Time
    Scheduled Delivery: 03/02/2009
    Shipped To: OKLAHOMA
    Shipped/Billed On: 02/27/2009
    Service: NEXT DAY AIR
    Weight: 2.40 Lbs

I still haven't received notification of shipment of mine yet. FIFO is only being partially adhered to. It's a move in the right direction. But, until all first days orders are sent, it's still broken. I've read reports of still others who ordered after me getting shipping notices. The good news is that the few thousand who orded before me (12:25) are starting to see their orders shipped. Go to goldandsilverblog.com and fill out the survey. I htink the link is in the comments.

That would be great if the issue was limited to 29,000 coins. While still a large edition for a 1 ounce gold coin, the issues surrounding distribution and the over all hype would drive priced way up on the resale market. I'd love for this to settle in the $2,500 range.

Question,, The mint is not allowed to strike these after dec 31 2009? I know the mint said it would sell into 2010 if there were stock to sell.

But could it be possible for another run of orders to go off in Dec, before the end, maybe the price will be down. And lets say in the last month they take 5000 orders. Then on Dec31 they only had 4000, would they honor the orders taken in 2009? And keep striking?

We may get to see the same problem at the end as we are seeing now, that will be cool.

    Mint notice

Just noticed this statement on the Mint's website:

If you ordered the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin by February 23, 2009, we expect to ship it no later than April 24, 2009.

If you ordered the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin between February 24 and March 24, 2009, we expect to ship it no later than May 24, 2009.

    Sitting Uy,

Interesting questions all. I have a feeling as the year goes along and the economy continues to tank, we will see a repeat of a shortage of planchets that we saw last year. With the second wave of foreclosures coming mid summer, I have a feeling that these will go off sale (production will be abandoned) way before December. But nobody can answer this now. I'm sure the mint doesn't even know what lies ahead for them.

Good answer, I like your Idea that they will run out of blanks, that will make our coins more valuable. I am also of the same belief that we are in for some interesting times potentially with not only the economy buy society.

I'm glad that you brought this up. I don't wish bad luck on anyone, and it would be nice if everyone got one ... but if everyone gets one, then it sorta takes away from this being the "most beautiful coin of the century" as it has been called. Mint Director Edmund Moy said that this very special coin has been in the works for 100 years, and now it's here. There are a couple of rare modern gold eagles that I would really like to have, but if everyone had one, I probably wouldn't want one so bad. If this is to be one of the most beautiful and wanted coins of all time, then the mintage needs to be kept to a minimum. I would like to see a greater distinction between the collector coins and the bullion coins.

The problem is that this has been the intention of the mint from the outset. A UHR for anyone that wants and can afford one -- even non-collector types who just like the coin.

Now, that said, events can still transpire to change how this thing ultimately works out, mintage-wise, but it's all speculation and not terribly useful. For now, the most prudent advice I can give myself, or others for that matter, is to assume everything will go as planned by the mint and this coin will become quite common. Even at that, I am sure I will still be satisfied as I consider the UHR more than a simple coin...like a small piece of art, really.

Well said, because I really don't wish anyone any bad luck. Perhaps I should say that I wish they would make this coin in the Reverse Proof.

Now that would really be awesome if they did that and kept the mintage low.

I wonder if it is possible to make the UHR gold as a reverse proof ???

Is there someone here that would know if that would be possible? Perhaps one of the old timers that may know about the striking pressure in coins. It seems to me that it takes about twice the pressure to mint proof coins...and if they are having troubles with the striking of this high relief, it may be impossible to do ...but then again we are Americans, and we made it to the moon in less than 10 years, so nothing is impossible.
Are there people in these threads that could inquire about this?

Gold is soft, so imagine it would be possible. It's just where the different areas where they etch and polish the dies I think. Insted of being concave, it could be convex. Probably weigh 2x as much though.

Reverse proof on the relief details of this coin would be stunning.

However, I am pretty damn obsessed with this uncirculated version, I can't even imagine how mental I would be over a proof of any kind.

    :p

30826XXX. Finally have the thing in hand. It's been sitting at the UPS hub all weekend. It's well worth the wait! The box is almost as stunning as the coin. I'm at my office or I would post a pic.
    Good luck to everyone!

I saw one on Friday at the Spartanburg, SC coin show. It was very nice looking. Not sure how the guy got it, he said he was just one of the first to get his shipped.
