I don't think this thread can go any further without the inclusion of stevex6's famous zombie Jesus! (Now holding an honoured position in my own collection.)

Every time this comes up, I show one of my two better fourrees so this time you get the bad ones.

Those are AWESOME. The hole on the Michael VII greatly enhances the coin!!

It's kind of crude, but this one feels very fitting for Christmas:

    Norman.jpg
    Norman Sicily, Roger I
    Obverse
: ROGERVS COME +S, Roger mounted left wearing Norman helmet, holding kite shield and striped banner
Reverse: +MARIA MATER DNI; enthroned nimbate Virgin Mary holding nimbate, infant Christ in lap
    24mm, 7.25g, 1072 – 1101, pierced in ye olden dayes

    Excellent coin!

I only have one gold Byzantine coin, the vast majority being bronze, and one silver coin, a hexagram.

This is a gold histamenon nomisma of Isaac I, 1057-1059 AD

I got this in a bag of coins from Savoca. It is a nice A2 Anonymous follis. 13.1 gm and 33.25 at the widest side. Really nice portrait , the reverse looks a bit blurry.

54A832DD-C0BE-4E73-A6D9-3CACE99C2015.jpeg Guys, you got it all wrong. According to eBay, this is the first coin of Christ. Get yours now before they’re all gone! Supplies are limited. :joyful:

This reminds me of the theory a couple hundred years ago that the Rhodes 3/4 facing heads depicted Christ wearing a crown of thorns. People see what they want to see.

What a beautiful example, ancientJoe! My example in gold is not nearly as nice as yours, but here is one of my silvers of the type.

@AncientJoe Wow, that is a stunner! Both the coin and the photographing skills are above par.

Here are some non-Byzantine coins that have Christ on them:

Obv: IC XC across field; Christ Pantokrator enthroned facing,
Rev: СВѦТСЛАВ-ЦБЛГАРОМ; Todor Svetoslav standing facing, holding cross-tipped scepter

Hungary: Charles Róbert (1307-1342) BI Denár (Huszár-450, Unger-357) Obv: Christ standing facing within mandorla, raising right hand in benediction; in left, book of Gospels
Rev: Kneeling Angel facing left with a halo and cross
