I'm hoping that Saturn makes his way down to Brooklyn after he's done visiting you up there...still waiting for mine too, but hopefully should be coming soon.
Well after Brooklyn he can make his way down I-95 to Maryland and stop by my house as well. I haven't seen anything yet either.
Sorry. It just popped into my head. Here’s another Brooklyn-related song that’s more my speed these days. (Seasonally appropriate, too.)
Hi all CT folks I was finally able to put my hands on my Secret Saturn sending yesterday, after some worries all along. What was in the package is so astounding and amazing, I couldn't but create a dedicated thread that you'll find here ! Io Saturnalia ! Q
Thanks homeboy. Few fun facts: Any coins of Spithridates are lifetime Alexander the great coins... but not all Alexander the great lifetime coins are during Spithridates lifetime. As the great(ish) just pointed out, after having killed Spithridates brother in battle Spithridates made a bold charge at Alexander while he was still recovering from the engagement aaand as he was swinging his sword at Alexander's head, Cleitus the black cleaved Spithridates arm clean off. And then we have to assume either was finished off or died of his wounds shortly thereafter. As he never would return home. And I'm so proud that Curtisimo picked right up on who it was and knew the story. I thought it might be obscure. Years later in a drunken brawl with Cleitus, standing up for the name and honor of Alexander's dad, Philip II and not Zeus, Alexander ran Cleitus clean through with a spear. Killing the man who had saved his life at the Granicus. "After Tryphon's army had routed some of Demetrius II's soldiers and were chasing them along the coast, a MASSIVE TIDAL WAVE swept Tryphon's army and all of his dreams of being a unified Seleucid King into the ocean." That's from a CT article I wrote about tryphling Tryphon.
I have been waiting to open my gift (received over a week ago) since the coin I intended to send to my giftee still hasn’t arrived and probably won’t for another week or two.
Hope everyone is having a great evening!! I opened my gift and am quite pleased with a wonderful silvered Constantine I Camp Gate. It came very well packaged and I had a bit of trouble opening it up but I'm happy to report I succeeded. Thank you to my generous Secret Saturnalia and Merry Christmas to you and all our CT friends. -d
Very nice coin. I love how it is rated "uncirculated". That's right, straight from the Roman mint to you! We at NGC have a special deal with Marcus Mintmasterius at Thessalonica ensuring only the finest coins for you... SC
The postal service in NYS has taken serious staffing cuts & we're paying the price for it ! I'm still waiting for other packages to arrive & I'm not happy about it !!!
Io Saturnalia! I had a strong will (cough, substitute the "ll" in "will" with "fe") to wait till Christmas before opening the box, and was rewarded by the most generous Secret Saturn gift!!! The gift included the Augustus denarius (RIC(I)-207) - a type I have been eyeing for a long time to improve my Julio-Claudians. So far I had only a RIC(I)-1a quinarius with a rather worn portrait on obverse. Hence, the far better portrait on a more palpable denarius is highly appreciated and welcomed to my collection, with the added value of being a precious gift from a fellow CT-er. The package also included what has become the first non-digital numismatic literature in my library, and what a start with a historical book from 1942, full of attractive illustration plates. Thank you @Julius Germanicus so much for your generosity, thoughtfulness and for making this period special and filling our hearts with warmth! Io Saturnalia, Merry Chirstmas and Happy forthcoming 2021 to all CT-ers. That will be very difficult for 2021 to be any worse than 2020, hence very much looking forward to what positive breakthroughs the new year will bring to us.
I hope everyone had a good holiday! These are some interesting coins I received for Saturnalia. May everyone have a happy new year!
Those are way cool @NLL ! I particularly like the eagle reverse. The Christmas present I bought for my wife on December 8th finally arrived today. Perhaps there is some home that my Secret Saturnalia present will arrive soon haha.
OMG ! Could this be the Secret Saturnalia Surprise I've been waiting for ? Arriving Soon, sent from Cummings, GA. PAY PAL POSTPAY GCS, Tracking # 9405528206334190146237.
Abel on London could be John or Henry III. I'm not good enough with these to tell from the remaining obverse.
