Gold Coins-What Was the First Gold Coin You Bought?

    And if I had a list of things I was looking for, and was willing to pay a "fair price" for them, and wanted to avoid the "learning experience" of comparing what you see online to what you see in-hand, I'd probably do that.

    That's not me, though. I'm an opportunist and a cheapskate, with such poor taste that I consider "problem coins" worthy of attention. I'm also insatiably curious. It all works for me.

    My first gold coin was a Type II gold dollar I bought from my mother’s cleaning lady circa 1963.

    My first gold I didn't really purchase. It was a quarter ounce AGE I won at our coin club's show raffle. Instead of selling the tickets given to me, I just bought them all and won the grand prize.

    For a coin I bought on purpose, it was a Byzantine solidus of Constantine VII I think.

    I bought this 20-mark piece before I realized I needed to keep track of the price paid, so I can't tell you how much I paid, but it was in D-Marks, and certainly less than current value. DE20Mk1888FriedrichIII.jpg
