2008 american buffalo proof and uncirculated gold coins

1. Low mintages across the board
2. Very low FIRST STRIKE populations

These reasons are why these coins are selling for "MOON MONEY".
Just watch a few and see what they sell for.........................
There was a seller that turned down a $800 "best offer" for a $10 PCGS MS70 the other day. I, along with everybody else knows what FIRST STRIKE really means, BUT they continue to bring in BIG $$$$ !!!!!!!!

Chief, You are 100% correct on the FS labels:thumb: I know it's just a $10 label, but people do seem to really love it. Personally, I really do like the new one with the buffalo, but I'm not going to pay the price just to have a label

i wonder why the 2008w am buffalo one ounce proof is more expensive than the uncirculated?.
the mintage stated proof is 50% more than uncirculated.

You know the value of a coin is not just based on mintage but demand as well. Early on when I was trying to determine values of my coins, I was going through the same issues..... "why is this coin worth more with a higher minage than this other coin"? GD, Hobo and others drilled it into my head that there are many factors that determine the value of a coin, with mintages and demand being two of the top factors. Take for example the 2001 Buffalo silver dollars. There were 500,000 minted for the series with over 200,000 minted for each the proof and unc. Try to find one of these for less than $125. Then there are other modern comm silver dollars (and since I am at work, I can't provide a specific example) that have a lower mintage but are worth half. Supply and demand.

 

Any experience with "bleeding" on the surface in gold buffalos? Effects on numismatic values?

the mint will certainly release its only buffalo proof one ounce gold this year. even other eagle series. now is only May.

if the american buffalo one ounce proof gold $50.00 does come out second half of the year. the price of gold might be very high during that time. how are still buying it?. remember the premium for bullion gold is down right now. but the u.s. mint still selling at very high premium. collectors might shift to buy bullion instead.

 

one more thing. the 2008w am eagle 1/2 ounce unc gold price is higher than the 2008w am buffalo 1/2 ounce unc gold right now.
