Nyatii I like running w/scissors. Makes me feel dangerous

I'm still going barefoot outside. Of course it only down to 18 degs and 4" of snow. I'll put them on when it gets bad out.

My first Boy Scout experience was camping, with a tent in the middle of January in MN, at -25F. But we were all huddled around the fire, in our sleeping bags. The cover of my brand new sleeping bag was full of little holes from sparks that landed on it. But I treasured the experience.

Five years later I was bow hunting for deer, in December, at -25F with my dad and brother. Had to keep walking to keep warm. We never saw any deer that day.

Now I'm in the Phoenix AZ area, where the temp last summer got to 125F in my yard (gravel yard traps and reflects the heat). But, if you're lucky, you go from a/c house to a/c car to a/c work or a/c shopping, etc. I'll take AZ.

Yeah kinda sick of the cold up here in New England... Been considering AZ for a while since a friend of mine (Chuck "The Sandman" Collins) moved down there... Is so so tempting not to have to ever shovel snow again :D

After living in Florida for much of the past decade, I completely agree with you, @lordmarcovan. In Tennessee, however, cold weather days are much more common, but to be honest, though, I'm glad it's nothing like winter in Ohio or Michigan.

Cloudy and cool here today. Perfect weather, as far as I'm concerned.

Though born and raised in Florida (and the climate here is the same as N FL, which is only hollerin' distance away), I'm not a fan of hot and/or humid weather. Our summers here are too long and steamy for my taste.

Our winters are mostly mild, though, and I love Decembers here, for the most part. They often come with fog drifting in from the ocean. And I like that. Cool and misty is great by me. (I bet I'd enjoy the Pacific NW, though I've never been there.)

Only occasionally will we get a hard freeze, or frost like I posted on Wednesday morning. The rest of the time, it's pretty mild, and I still run the car AC on warmer days. My personal ideal temp range is just like today: mid-'50s to low-'60s.

A GREAT book if you like history. An amazingly detailed look into the first year of Winston Churchill's tenure as Prime Minister, and how the events of the Battle of Britan dovetailed into it.

Been there, read that! Larson is one of my favorite authors of narrative nonfiction, and I think I've read his entire output save one, up to this point.

He's on a short list with authors like Tony Horwitz and Mary Roach and Bill Bryson and Ivor Noël Hume for my favorite nonfiction- and most of what I read anymore is nonfiction. (In fact, Hume’s All the Best Rubbish is one of my favorite books of all time.)

In my book (pun intended) here's nothing quite so good as a true story that's written like and reads like a novel.

We got some Christmas presents in a huge box yesterday. My daughter is currently sitting in the box and beyond excited. I hope she's this excited about the presents Santa is bringing....

PS- speaking of Churchill and 1940, I just finished the audiobook version of this short history of that period during my commuting last week. (It is a free download on Audible, if you have a membership.)

It’s a tiny bit dry, but not bad. More a serious history, without the amusing little interjections of wit you’ll get with Horwitz, Roach, or Bryson.

I'll have to check him out... To be honest I tent towards "historical fiction" like Fosters "Maori" or Sadlers "Casca the eternal mercinary" series I recall Piers Anthony also wrote several i read (can't remember names) but in each case based their stories in well researched histories.

My wife says that in her next life she will likely be a doggie bed. In the evening when she finally relaxes in her chair, the inside dogs immediately pile on for a nap.

That's a fantastic photo, @GH#75! Is that really you, with the fish in your mouth?

Spectacular! Every time I see that picture, I laugh out loud. LOL for you younger folks.
