I can't wait for AMCC3! My own consignments are rather insignificant, but I hope to be able to win some fine additions to the collection. I won't hesitate to call AMCC my favorite auction of the year.

Finally got around to photographing this coin. It’s tough to photograph. It still retains a good bit of silvering, which means that so much depends upon how it catches the light.

To be clear, not an AMCC win. Really looking forward to that next auction, whenever it happens.

 

Worth the wait! Thanks. ...As far as silvering, when I was a kid, collecting locally, it was exotic even on ants of Gallienus. ...And no one partially resilvers (...right?), so unless I'm wrong again, you've got a pretty cogent guarantee of authenticity. Liking it....

My only AMCC (2) pickup. This gorgeous fully silvered Severina that I got for a steal.

 

How many remember AMCC1 and how it happened that lot number one was won on the first day of December and lot two was won on the second?

Those new here since AMCC2 might benefit from examining the results of the past two sales as guides for the actual value of coins rather than the dream numbers you see on many online sales. There are very nice coins that drew some good competition and some pretty poor coins that either went unsold or well below the hopes of their consignors. For example:

This was a very decent Probus with sharp reverse that sold for a bit under three times the start price with seven bids from four different bidders. This is the kind of competition that makes auctions fun. The consignor (me) actually made a few $$$ on this one (almost as much as he lost on the next lot below).

This was a lot of ten coins that might be termed 'also ran' but are still better than most of what we see posted by our new members and certainly better than what we see from uncleaned lots at $4 a coin. The point here is there were coins in AMCC2 for a variety of interests and bargains for people in the low end brackets.

Will there be a similar spread in the low-medium range next time? Will there be more even better coins that might interest you entry level high rollers who never win when bidding at CNG? I have no idea since I have not seen the lots. I have no idea if there will be anything I want to bid on or not but I will look to see and will follow with interest coins I don't want (mostly the expensive ones) to see how close I can come to guessing the results. I like smaller sales since I am not able to compete with the Big Dogs that frequent the big name sales. A kitchen remodel project will keep me from bidding heavily. What is your excuse?

 

I was so excited to participate in AMCC 1, my first coin auction. I had three coins I was looking at: a Helena AE3, an AE17 of Alexander the Great and an AR diobol from Ionia.

I won two, the Alexander and diobol coins. To my surprise, three coins showed up. The person that won Helena was gifting me the coin. I was shocked and grateful!

These three coins now sit proudly in my collection. It turns out that all three are ex Justin Lee which I think is super cool!




I really hope that I'm able to participate again. It was such a blast!

Thanks @+VGO.DVCKS. Anglo-Gallic coins have a wide range varieties for some of the issues it makes it real exercise in fly specking. That is especially true for the coins of Edward III. Some of his issues are known by a handful of coins.

I'd love to see your examples, you should definitely post them to the forum. We need some Anglo-Gallic post on here. The FILI REGIS deniers are some of my favorite Anglo Gallic coins, they have such a great lion on the obverse.

 

@TheRed, I'm on your page about the lions on the 'FILI REGIS' ones. They look so much more 13th-century than the royal issue. ...I'll try to find the .jps again; wish me luck....

 

I heard from @Severus Alexander that AMCC 3 is happening soon so I thought I would give this great a bump and post a couple more coins I have won from the previous two AMCC auctions. The first is a Ptolemy III chalkon that is ex @Justin Lee

I also picked up a nice antoninianus of Probus. Despite not really collection Roman coins there is something about Probus I can't resist.

It will indeed be up soon, with a July closing date! I generally try to avoid closing on the same day as Savoca, but it's hard to predict when their auctions will be - they're a bit irregular.

This will probably be the last AMCC for a while, as the time involved turns out not to be very consistent with my day job, sadly. Lots of fun though! (Good thing, it certainly doesn't pay! )

Is there any preference here for a Saturday vs. Sunday close? or does it matter?

That's good to hear. The previous auctions were before my time here, and I didn't know about them. I actually will have a couple of coins consigned in this auction that I decided to sell after upgrades. I hope they find a good home somewhere!

 

@TheRed, I occasionally go trawling for just One representative Ptolemy as early as that. Yours is solid; bet I would've gone for it.
