I'm thinking about going for this deal, they seem to have just posted it today. ... Where are you guys getting your 2009 coins from (other than those sketchy looking sites) Found this here: www.coincountryscoinvault.com.
Try here for a lot less....... http://www.mintproducts.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=201
IMHO... watch the shows for their 'humor' but stay away... far away from purchasing! DYODD... There are many dealers that sell certified/graded/slabbed ASEs for several dollars cheaper. I'm assuming you're talking about NGC MS-69?
The beginning of last year, silver was primarily hovering around 15.50 to 18.00 through January and February. I don't know when the mint buys their bullion/planchet stock but at the end of last year to now, it's been hovering around 9.50 to 11.00. I'm going to wait and see what kind of pricing the mint comes out with and will likely be buying from them. Along with several other items on my list, depending on when they come out. Maybe it won't have much affect on ASE prices at all. No hurry. 2009 ASEs will be abundantly available soon enough for the next 11 months.
You cannot purchase bullion ASEs direct from the Mint. Authorized dealers 'set' the price for the masses.
The price you are showing is awfully expensive. If you look around a little on the net you can pick them up cheaper than that. I just purchased two with shipping and handling for $18.00 and change each. Whether they will go up or down in price throughout the year is no more than a guess, but '09 will probably end up as their biggest mintage year IMO.
What do you mean you can't purchase them directly from the mint? You can to. Maybe not yet but soon. Also for pricing, we need to clarify if we're talking about unc. or proofs. Proofs will probably be in the upper 20 to low 30 range no matter where you go. Unc. slightly more than half that.
I remember the good ol days, when bullion was purchased for bullion's sake, and eagles were running $7.80 in the magazines...and I thought what a rip. HAHAHAHA.
Did you guys notice they didnt even actually have the correct graphics? The gold 2009 NGC coins have a different holder. I smell some hit or miss photoshopping...
You must figure if the mint is putting a premium of 50% for the gold 1907 coin they will do the same with ASEs.
Apmex is offering 2009 ASE's for $15.96 this morning. They have a minimum order of $50, and shipping factors in as well, but that seems to be the best price I have seen anywhere. Buy three and get a pack of Intercept Shields for them, and you're at their minimum order threshold. 20-lot purchases go at $15.66, which they list as $3.99 over spot. I haven't done the math... BTW, I have no connection with Apmex beyond being a satisfied customer. Happy hunting.
I locked in with my supplier for $14.23 back in early December. Had to buy a roll to get that price. Cheaper than last year.
Sorry I'm answering so late. The US Mint only sells Proof and Burnished ASEs via their website. The coin that was being discussed is neither (it is bullion) Here is the link for purchasing US bullion coins. http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/american_eagles/index.cfm?action=american_eagle_bullion
I bought 5 2009 ASE today from my local dealer. $16 each and put them in Dansco albums for the grandkids. He has plenty and I think they are around $14 each if you buy a roll...
