Geta Pautalia, Thrace

I'm having trouble attribute this coin.
so far I come up with this from the wildwinds website (obverse matches AE17 and the reverse AE18). Maybe on their website the pictures are messed up?!

Π CEΠTI ΓETA KAI, bare-headed, draped, cuirassed bust right
ΠAYTAΛIΩTΩN, lion walking right.

(note: ΓETAC K correct but the lion is different - no writings underneath)

The standard reference for coins of that city is Ruzicka. I'll look it up for you this evening when I get home from work.

RPC is a good resource for provincial coins.
I can find stuff there that I can't find on wildwinds. Though I don't always have success there either. Just another arrow in your quiver

The coin is Ruzicka 852, which is an AE 18, with specimens in London and Sofia.



You'll note the legend breaks match your coin exactly, and I suspect the coins cited are a reverse die-match to yours.

The London specimen cited by Ruzicka is this one in the British Museum, BMC 3.146,42, probably with some of the legends off the flan, and it is probably a reverse-die match to yours as well.



Ruzicka also cites Moushmov 4342, which is almost certainly incorrectly transliterated/translated from the Bulgarian at Moushmov online:



I don't have either edition of Varbanov, so I'm afraid I can't look it up for you there. It isn't at the Corpus Nummorum website listings for Geta coinage of Pautalia.
