    A 3.95 coin holder ?

Why not a Big Mac, coke and fries. Does not sound like a christmas present for an employee.

It sucks that you had such a lousy experience. I just received some APMEX coins through a friend. He spotted an offer for Barber quarters a few weeks ago. $88 per roll so he called me.

I told him to expect a lot of very worn and cleaned coins but a few would most likely be decent. I told him to get a roll for me as I had some 50-D nickels to offer him in trade.

He was told they would arrive Dec 22 or 23 and they arrived the 23rd. He came over with them today and they were as I said they would be. At least half a dozen in each roll would grade full good though.
    I was satisfied actually.

I've never used APMEX but I've found that many coin business are not run by the same standards we have come to expect from others. You are lucky if you find honest dealers, but don't expect them to also be well run businesses.

I will also add that I purchased valuable a raw coin through APMEX that I wasn't sure was "authentic". I called them and expressed my concerns and they responded they would guarantee the coin should it not be authentic. The coin turned out authentic as ANACS slabbed it. I also received a "free" Popcorn tin from APMEX this year as a Christmas present. Which seemed a very nice geature on their part. I've purchased coins through many other places and have never received anything free, with the exception of mesa coin.

    P.S. Welcome to cointalk Scott!!

I'd just like to add a positive comment for Apmex too. I've bought from them more than a few times, and have always been satisfied. Items have always arrived in a reasonable time, and usually before they stated they would. All companies make mistakes sometimes.

Just a few weeks ago during their daily holiday sale, they sold out over 200,000 ASE's in 24 hours time. After they ran out of the silver eagles, they offered 2009 silver maple leafs at the same price over spot as they had the ASE's until that days sale expired. Something they didn't have to do.

    hi
In fairness to the OP you need to read his entire response. Yes the item was a $3.95 item but it was part of a bigger package. When you are in the moment you have a plan for things to go a certain way. The $3.95 item screwed up the plan because he didn't want to give the silver without it being protected.

Did he overreact? Maybe, maybe not. If promises were made it doesn't matter the cost of the item. Is good service reserved only for the high priced items? Both parties have agreed that there was a misunderstanding. There is no need to now bash the OP

"$3.95 gifts ruined you company's Christmas? I think I know who I am believing."

"Wow. Great thread. It's always fun hearing the whole story. $3.95."

"Why not a Big Mac, coke and fries. Does not sound like a christmas present for an employee"

I think we should wait for the whole story before we throw someone under the bus. I for one would love to have a boss that gives a hunk of silver AND a bonus check for the Christmas holiday.

    just my thoughts,
    Richard

    Amen.

In fact, the OP didn't totally diss Apmex as he had bought coins from them to use as gifts ("I held off on giving them the coins that I also bought from Apmex until after I have something to put the raw coins into."). He just wanted to holders to put the coins into rather than handing them out raw. Both parties here have made good points concerning the transaction. As far as the phone responses the OP got from Apmex, I tend to think he was right. I'm sure everyone here has, at one time or another, dealt with Customer (dis)Service being told that something was available when it wasn't or that an item had shipped when it didn't. If Apmex had been more forthcoming with the truth, the end result may well have been the same, but at least the OP would have been able to adjust his expectations.

Christmas ruined? I doubt it. He did give out bonus checks. The coins/holders will just be a second Christmas when they get back to work.

My score here - OP 75%, Apmex 25%

If it was me I would have canceled the order for coin flips and drove to my local coin shop to purchase them there. I do realize that not everyone has a coin or collectable shop within driving distance.

This thread should be changed to "How I ruined APMEX's Christmas."

I was under the impression they didn't ship coin, not coin holders. He could easily show the employees the coins he purchased and say the holders are arriving late so you will get them after Christmas. Everyone would accept that as part of life.

If it was the coins themselves that is a different story as prices on coins are usually time sensitive and failure on that could be bad. But coin holders are not IMO.

Anyway bash me away on this but I have ordered from the mint and had their system go bonkers before and it is not intentional. This is not anything remotely close to ruining a Christmas.

    Things that really ruin Christmas...

A relative dies, sometimes on Christmas Day
    Car accidents
    Being ill
Having your house foreclosed on - lots are now
All the kids that got nothing
All the people with no food

I could go on and on. Sorry, $3.95 coin holders just don't fit the bill.

:loud:Yes OP, you blew it with this thread, blew it with big chunks.:loud:

I understand that during the holidays some snafus are bound to happen and the old maxim runs true. If someone gets great service few are bound to hear about it, if one gets lousy service one will usually go out of their way to make sure everyone knows about it.

    Amen brother.

As long as you have your health, a roof over your head and food on the table, Christmas was not ruined.

Let go of material goods and get back in touch with the true meaning of the season and be thankful.

I have to say I'm very impressed with APMEX coming on the site to explain. I will say over the holiday period mistakes have a reputation of increasing.

Since it is the Christmas season...

Let's give a break to the Customer Service Reps - I've been in that trench. Can you imagine during the holiday season what that's like?

When you call, realize that you are talking to someone who does this all day long. And yes, you are "special" just like the other 60 complaining customers they're going to talk to on the same shift.

If you are having serious problems, be nice and ask to talk to a supervisor. Then spend you're time bashing the supervisor - at least they're making a bit more money.

Can't deal with someone who lies to me. Good to read feedback, both bad and good. If it was a simple as it did not get shipped in time for Christmas, I would have read this and moved on. BUT - if they will lie about shipping, makes me wonder what else they will do. I'm sure everything will turn out well when it's over, but the lies won't go away. Thanks for the post - both bad and good.
