APMEX Lied Three Times, and Ruined Christmas

This is a message of warning to anybody who would ever consider trusting APMEX. They have have ruined Christmas for my employees.

I ordered from APMEX on December 9, an item that was listed as in stock. I was told that they would ship immediately. [Lie #1] The charge to my credit card was run that day.

One week later, on Tuesday December 16, I contacted APMEX to inquire about the shipping status. They told me that it had already shipped out earlier that very day (note the past tense "had already shipped"). [Lie #2]

Then, on Thursday December 18, late in the day, I received an e-mail from APMEX saying that the order would ship out the following day (Friday) via UPS overnight for delivery on Monday. [Lie #3]

On Monday, I contacted APMEX asking for a tracking number... Can you guess what they told me?

Now, it is Tuesday before Christmas, and my Christmas gifts for my staff have still not arrived. We close for the 5 day holiday weekend in two hours. Because of the lying and lack of integrity displayed by Apmex, it is far too late to order from an alternate source.

Therefore, I urge you. Every one of you who may consider ordering from APMEX. I urge you to consider one of the many alternative sources for coins and bullion. Please do not reward a dishonest business with your money. Try Gainesville Coins, or the Northwest Territorial Mint, or any of the other providers. Do not buy from APMEX.

Here is my reply from one of the 3 other threads I found you were bashing my company over. I find it odd that you stated you were so generous with gift giving over the past 12 years and the item we are speaking of which ruined ChristmaS and did not arrive in time was a full $3.95 coin supply item. How about complaining over something ligitimate.

I think you did not get your holders and you are trying to make it sound like we did not ship Gold Eagles or something of signifigant value. Either item is an issue but I hardly believe this item ruined Christmas as you so stated. If you are so generous, how does $3.95 ruin Christmas?

    Anyway, here is my reply.....

You are correct, although this error was not at all intentional. Yes, we did sell something that as it turns out, was not in stock. The inventory count was wrong and you were not the only person affected by this. The item we are speaking of coin holders that cost $3.95 each. 20 of them to be exact.

I can't speak to the comment that it was shipped out. We have a system and it either shipped or it did not. I don't agree that we told you it shipped when it did not. What we did do for you which you don't know about or did not state above is that we looked all over the country to locate these for you. When we finally did locate them, I requested them to be sent out on Friday. The exact term I said to the employee was send them out UPS or FED-Ex them out today. When you called in on Monday, I was told that they were sent out UPS two-day. They should have arrived Tuesday. Not a lie, just a mis-communication in trying to solve a problem. It should have been there the next day as was my intention.

Yes, we did make a mistake, yes, we did try to fix it, yes we are responsible for ruining Christmas, yes, we are human. We are very busy and always try to take care of our customers. Sometimes even our best is not good enough. Thank you for letting me reply here. Please accept my apologies.

Just give your employees an IOU for whatever you ordered for Christmas. I would imagine they will understand.

Yes, you are right. They will understand.

I'm just upset because I have been lied to on three consecutive occasions by a company that I thought that I could trust. Since they condone systematically lying to their customers, I wanted to spread the story along as a warning. Apmex cannot be trusted, and please don't find yourself in a position to rely on them to honor their word.

Don't let idiots ruin your Christmas, celebrate the holiday despite them. Sometimes the greatest revenge is your staying above the fray.

Thank you very much. I appreciate the thoughtful well wishes.

I feel better having gotten this off my chest, and you are right that I should not let this ruin my holiday spirit.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

I have had two recent orders with APMEX and have no complaints. I received what I ordered in a timely manner with no surprises.

I spent all last weekend stuck in JFK airport in NY.

Thankfully I am back to civilisation again, there might be only 20 rude New Yorkers in all of NY, and this weekend I seemed to have met each and every bleeping one of them.

But am I upset, nope. Laugh is on them:D

Never had a problem with APMEX. Call them and complain or send a letter. Maybe they will give you a discount or some store credit. One would think that 2 weeks out from Christmas would be adequate time for shipping...........

It is also interesting how after we tried to help and rectify the problem during this busy holiday season, you told Jana our customer service manager who really did try to help you that you decided not to go out and bash us on the forums. Thanks for making her feel like all her efforts were a waste anyway. She really did try to solver the problem and this is how you say thank you? Nice..... All this over $3.95 coin holders. I mean I could see if it was Silver Eagles or Gold Eagles but come on... coin holders ruining Christmas.

They were shipped 2 day air, delivered and signed for on Tuesday December 23, @ 4:09.

And not a word from ajb. It's funny how these bash threads usually have 2 sides to the story.

Yes, the delivery came two hours after we closed for the Christmas holiday. UPS was not able to reroute the package in time as Jana and I had discussed. I held off on giving them the coins that I also bought from Apmex until after I have something to put the raw coins into. Instead I gave them the bonus checks alone. I told them that there was a personal gift coming when we reconvene after the holiday.

Jana did try, but unfortunately it was to late by then to fix the problem created my the misinformation that I was given. I stand behind my statement that there should have been some accuracy to what I have been told about this order.

That said, it is Christmas, and especially today, I wish no man ill will. Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year to all!
