american buffalo half ounce proof and unc. will command a high premium. it will overpass the 1/4 and 1/10 ounce buffaloes. in the future. i see the half ounce will pass $1,000.00. possibly it can reach $1,500.00.

    gold 2009

UBS just gave a price target of $300/oz for gold as the "surprise" of 2009. It's entirely possible, as we are currently in a deflationary spiral. If hedge fund liquidation continues after the new year, and world's central banks sell gold to reduce some of the deficits... when people are poor, nobody will have any money for the yellow lead.

    Gold $300

With a demand that is world wide, a sinking dollar, and world banking teatering I would not buy into that type of thinking. The U.S.Mint dropped 60% of their products to produce those 1 oz. slugs.
There are waits for ingots and bullion coin across the world.
It is the one currency that people trust. Silver, could be the next metal to move if gold gets much higher .
Every time we throw another bunch of money to banks who will not lend it, or car companies who should be in chapter 11 the dollar will decline.
The President elect is moving to stimulate an economy with
    ink and paper.

I wish gold is still a currency. It will only become a currency again if the Western Civilization completely collapses. Returning to gold standard? Wishful thinking, unless our civilization collapses or a revolution, that's not going to happen. Dollar decline? Against which currency? Euro? Give me a break. They have more problems than we do.

    Dollar vs Euro or Yen

The dollar has been lower then it is now against the Euro.
Just a short while back when this item got started and Europe fessed up it was at a 1.23 to the Euro , today it is 1.39 and a bit . Against the Yen the dollar is at 90 and a bit.
Print more paper the less your money is worth against mayor curriencies.
Japan has been in a " Recession" for twenty years .
They were doing much better but we are going at the problem the same way they did.
Government does not solve problems , or do well running bussiness ventures.
There will be less money in your pockets to purchase coins with. Pocket change will be going into a jar, or you might have a small trading fund to go to the banks and purchase coins to look through.
Shoting certain curriencies might be a way to help your coin fund, but you had better know why curriencies move.

don't buy from e-bay the unopen box on american buffalo gold proof or gold unc. there were many reports of mint employees not inserting the coin inside the capsule. or the capsule not put inside the box hole. thus the coin bump back and forth during delivery or during transferring from one place to another. causing damages such as dent on edge and pollution or dirt.

since the sellers are not willing to open the box for higher return on sale premium. and/ or because if they open it up and find out any damages. the mint simply can not replace the item cause it was sold out. and just to get the cash back. why not sell it at e-bay or sell it at a little premium to get rid of it.

finally, to make sure yours is alright. open and check it for safe.

You know what all this means to me? It is that gold bullion ingots, coins, or whatever will be more sought after than proofs in the next few years.. Who will be able to afford the higher cost. But then again I guess there are always some that are more well off than others. As they say, the rich get richer or maybe it is that the smart get richer. More kudos to either.---zg

Mine was loose inside of it's box. It was banging around for God knows how long before I rescued it.

I would highly recommend this as well.

BTW, are those mintage fugures that you posted the final mintages for all fo the Buffalo coins? It appears that the 1/4 oz unc is the lowest mintage of all of them.

buffaloes mintages are final. if we talking about proof, then 1/2 ounce is the lowest (12,573 pcs). if we talking about the uncirculated only and/ or total proof and unc combined for buffaloes. then, the one ounce uncirculated is the lowest. only 9,706 pcs.

The One ounce Unc is going to be the winner of the buffalos. I still have a hard time thinking that more people own/collect one oz gold coins. And this one is kinda like the AGE (10k) and ASE(250k) 2006 Reverse proof. It's a one year type coin. and lt 10,000 All others the frationcal buffalos are type coins. hope I'm wrong.

The PCGS FIRST STRIKE labels have very low population #'s.
Lowest MS is 419 for the 1 oz
Lowest PF is 517 for the 1/2 oz

This means you can only have 419 max 4-pc sets in MS FIRST STRIKE !!!
This means you can only have 517 max 4-pc sets in PF FIRST STRIKE !!!

These will bring big $$$ later on........

as for low mintages. i would say that the one ounce uncirculated buffalo and the half ounce proof is the lowest. but so far the 1/10 and the 1/4 proof buffaloes is traded at a very high premium. so, it is really based on supply and demand. and the willingness of big investors to push that coin up.

    question

Why, because they are 'first strike' or because the mintage across the board is low?

I hope that people aren't purchasing because of the first strike/early release ploy.
