I started collecting South Korean bullion in 2017 and have picked up every issue that has been released so far. My latest silver tiger came in the mail today so I figured it was a good time to share these beautiful coins. 2017 Chiwoo Cheonwang 1 Clay 2017 Zi:Sin Gallus 1 Clay 2018 Chiwoo Cheonwang 1 Clay 2018 Korean Silver Tiger 2018 Zi:Sin Canis 1 Clay 2019 Chiwoo Cheonwang 1 Clay 2019 Korean Silver Tiger 2019 Zi:Sin Scrofa 1 Clay
And part 2: 2020 Chiwoo Cheonwang 1 Clay 2020 Zi:Sin Rattus 1 Clay 2020 Silver Korean Pheonix 2020 Korean Silver Tiger
Nice designs and a great collection! I debated collecting these (bought the 2017 Zi:Sin Gallus), but decided to move away from collecting modern bullion (nothing wrong with it-I actually like many of these designs, but felt like focusing on other items).
Those are bada$$! I learned about them last year sometime and they're getting quite a following! Have you bought any through the Korean Mint or been lucky on feebay? Why do some say 1 CLAY?
Wow - all very nice! The 2019 Zi:Sin Scrofa also comes in a "ghost" version. I have been collecting the Chiwoo and the Zi:Sin too, but not the Tigers or Phoenix.
I decided to start collecting them since I am a Korean linguist and have a pretty close relationship with Korea.
I have bought these all from either jmbullion, apmex, or provident (which is now basically jm). Buying from KOMSCO is pretty much impossible if you are not a Korean citizen. I think the 1 Clay is their version of "Silver Eagle" "Maple Leaf" Libertad" etc...
Yeah I saw the ghost version. There are a few other variations also but I decided to just stick with the primary stuff.
That's cool! Part of what I like about coins is the connection to other aspects (either our career, where our family members came from, or just something that we like).
Nice collection some really cool coins. I really like the 2018 Zi:Sin Canis 1 Clay looks almost like a Wolverine tiger mix.
I lived in Seoul for a year and used to be able to look out my kitchen window and see the Namsan Tower which is pictured on the newest tiger coin.
I have a worldwide 1 oz silver collection but not one from South Korea yet. Can't decide which one I like best.
Well they all have a pretty low mintage. All are Sub 50k. The older ones are starting to command a decent premium above melt. The 2020's, I paid ~$5 over melt but when I was looking earlier today, they are sold out.
I have been watching these since they came out. Like them all but haven't purchased any yet. I have enough addictions...um, I mean collections.
Yeah, I heard something like you have to have a South Korean Credit Card or a bank account to buy from their Mint, quite a system!
Almost anything online in Korea requires a citizen number (SK version of SSN). You can't even buy baseball tickets online without it. It was definitely annoying when I lived there.
@furryfrog02, I really like both series a whole lot. But for 2020, I must say I'm a bit disappointed by the designs. Whereas the prior years were quite ornate and intricate (the shields, the costumes, etc.), I found the 2020 designs rather plain. Maybe it's just me.
