Possible fake slab on Etsy.

I've been following this horrific seller of fake coins on Etsy for a while. Now they seem to be stepping up a little. They have a Morgan 1892-S XF 40 in a PCGS slab. Here's a picture of the suspected fake.


Here's another Morgan, same listed condition from a David Lawrence Rare Coins auction.


To me the suspected fake looks shady at best. On the slab, the fonts are different and the printing quality looks poor.

Perhaps PCGS should know about this. What do you guys think?

IMHO, I doubt PCGS would care.

 

The coin has numerous problems and is a fake for sure.(ex: the 1 is not over a dentil). Ditto for the slab, the lettering in the insert is bad and some of the paper characteristics wrong as well. I don't know enough about the different plastic slabs to comment on that aspect.

 

I'm sending the info to PCGS. It will be in their court if they want to do anything about it. From what I've seen so far, the people who can actually do something, don't seem to care.

 

Meow can just never understand why people with seemingly decent skills or talents decide to go the crooked way. Would not one sleep better doing or making things for people to enjoy and admire in a legitimate way?

 

IMO the fake one looks a lot better than XF-40 (If it were real).

 

The fake looks like a details cleaned to me ? If was real of course which is also a way to hide fakes

 

The OP is a fake. As anther posted noted, the “1” in the date and the dentile that is supposed to be under it don’t line up properly. There is also a die scratch through the “T” in “LIBERTY” that is probably missing, but you would need a super close-up photo to spot that. I didn’t see it when I blew up the picture with my iPad.

Agree that it's fake. Worth noting, though, that at least they got the barcode right on this one -- it scans as the same number that's printed on the slab.

Fake, but some unsuspecting poor sole with little knowledge will eventually purchase the coin put it away not knowing the truth until?

 

Until he dies and never knew. Or until he tries to sell it.

I mad the mistake of purchasing a roll of mixed UNC lincoln pre-59 for my grandson and when I got them I of course examined them and there was not ONE coin graded unc. Spent the better part of 3 weeks attempting to get a refund - still waiting. ETSY has NO control and it is a harbor for thieves.

I believe it has been found that counterfeiters and con men (and women) are highly intelligent individuals that enjoy the challenge of beating the system. If they put the energy they spent on doing the illegal things, towards legal goals, they would be well known multi-millionaires. A fine line for sure.

 

Yes, Meow has noticed that too. Maybe it is a mental defect of some sort.
