I bought this 1903 Grand Army of the Republic Medal, years ago. What I find interesting about these pieces is that they don't sell for very much money at all! At least that's the way it looks to me! If I'm wrong, please educate me, does anyone know anything about GAR history?! Maybe I'm the only one with a GAR Medal idk, but we'll find out!
Yeah, interesting read for sure, I read most of that off of Wiki but I didn't know about the last comment below! Yep, great history, way before my time! "The final Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic was held in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1949 and the last member, Albert Woolson, died in 1956 at the age of 109 years."
Very nice @ZoidMeister! Maybe even rare, I wonder if there's a rarity scale book on GAR Medals? Here's a little one I bought a couple of weeks ago, I'm trying to clean it up a bit, these are the sellers pics! It's a George Soley GAR prayer Token, If you're interested, I have a Soley album of my collection, check the Gallery link above! The below link tells Soley's story about his history in the world of Medals and Tokens! https://www.fi.edu/history-resource...ections include, presses were operated by hand.
I have a couple of pieces. Benjamin Harrison, who was a Civil War veteran, issued this piece during his successful 1888 run for the presidency.
